Two highly regarded, very astute men. Replaced by Michael Voss and Nathan Bassett / Gary Hocking. See what I did there?

So Port fans what happened Sat night, I know its only Richmond, but there seemed to be a bit of fire in the belly again, did they just pick blokes that are willing to have a crack this week?

game was only on in the background, so i didnt see much of it, but yes, it seemed like they, for the first time in weeks, brought the effort required. Full credit to them.

Saw westhoff take a couple of huge marks. Was he used as a stay at home forward this week? Howard rucked most of the time?

Few factors...clearly the heat was on and they needed to respond. 99 tackles when winning by 6 goals means (despite the opposition) the mind set was right. Which makes the previous efforts damning.

I think with some of the form and fitness of a few players missing a couple of them took the opportunity to stake a claim for a permanent berth while a couple of others just stood up.

Only 6 touches for Jake Neade, but 4 tackles and 15 pressure acts to go with 2 goals gave him a bit of credit in the bank for a week or two. Westhoff took 8 marks, 4 contested, 3 I50 and a goal, his best game of the year, Dixon with 14 touches, 5 marks ( all contested ) with a dozen hit outs and two goals again proved handy, Impey came in and his 13 touches, 6 marks and 3 goals were important.

However, the most pleasing aspect was the form of Boak, Wines, Hartlett, Polec and Broadbent. They all had 20 or more touches, 21 tackles between them and they led the way when we needed them to.

We still lost centre clearances which, with Lobbe out of form and now injured, means young Dougal Howard will be leading the rucks for the next couple of months and that's a concern. Our mids will need to read the opposition ruckman and try to win the ball from there. Richmond are that shit they won the centre clearances and were never in the game. Still work to do there.

All in some marks I50 by Dixon and Westhoff, tackling I50 by Neade and Impey and a couple of sound without being outstanding performances from the likes of Stewart, O'Shea and the good inclusion of Krakouer made a difference.

Sam Gray got into the game at times, Hombsch kept doing what he does, beating his man.

Pittard and Bryne-Jones are both playing well and with Krakouer back there they look more dangerous.

On the edge now? Jonas, Clurey was ok for the Magpies and Trengove comes back in this week, Jonas on the outer IMO. They might make it Stewart but I thought he was ok Saturday night.

All in all a much better effort and not for one minute am I discounting the quality, or lack thereof, of the opposition.

Hope for Ports sake Ken realises that one less plodder down back was a key to success. Can only play 2 out of Jonas, Hombsch, Trengove and Carlisle. Does Clurey also fit into that category or does he provide a bit more attack?

Trengove, Hombsch and Clurey the mix for me. The game has moved past Carlile I think, or, when a match up exists for him which not many do anymore.

Agreed re Carlisle - (would have been the man for Hawkins last week though) but theres not many lumbering forwards around now so cant see him being a regular on his return.

Probably Stewart out for Trengrove and Chad walks in probably at the expense of Ah Chee or maybe even Sam Gray.

It should be that Bum Toumpas I'd rather bring in some 118kg fat chick out of the hot dog line than play that squib who still sleeps with a light on, She'd have less turn overs.

Good to see the 'front runners' in Polec and Westoff play well in their win.
Be good to see them get a kick in a loss though.........
Or do Port only win when they play well?
There are no stupid questions, just stupid people.

SCANS have shown Matthew Lobbe ruptured his posterior cruciate ligament on Sunday and will spend around three months in rehabilitation.

A smooth recovery for Lobbe would mean he returns around Round 18 of the AFL season.

Lobbe suffered the injury during a second quarter incident playing for Port Adelaide against Sturt in the SANFL last weekend.

According to the Power’s head of high performance Darren Burgess, the nature of the injury allows Lobbe to commence rehab without going under the knife.

“Really disappointing news for ‘Lobes,’ the scans show a full rupture of the PCL, which will keep out for around 12 weeks,” Burgess told portadelaidefc.com.au.

“The timeframes for recovery are pretty similar whether he has surgery or not.

“It’s a fairly standard rehab program that he’ll do, he’ll be in a knee brace for about six weeks, and will commence running in 6-7 weeks.”

Port Adelaide is yet to make a decision on whether it will add Lobbe to its long term injury list.

Whilst Lobes hasn't been anywhere near the level he played at in 2014 I thought he would bounce back from being dropped. Nobody would take it well, especially someone who is considered a leader around the club and I was hopeful of a return to form for him in the coming weeks.

Dougsy gets a run at the lead ruck role for at least 12 weeks, or more, it throws more work load onto Westhoff, Trengove and Dixon, we might have to debut Billy Frampton before his time and covering Ryder and Lobbes loss would be hard for any club. #1 and #2 ruckman gone for the bulk of the year....not ideal. Challenging time ahead.
