R6: South v Adelaide - Sunday 1st May @ Hickinbotham Oval

Post by Fluffbag »

I have been away at Sci Fi conventions last few weeks so I have missed the matches, what is the likelihood of South keeping it's winning streak and will there be a crowd greater than 1000 people?

Bad news mate, South Adelaide players were called back to the mothership several weeks ago Seems their mission here was aborted after the intelligent life forms grew impatient, lost hope and ultimately figured they were wasting their time.

Apart from 1979 and maybe 1991, some would say we been wasting our time for the last 50 years

I reckon interest in this one would be very high.
BUT
Adelaide United are playing a soccer grand final at the same time. My team will also be involved in a big game v Port, also at the same time.
Maybe if it were played at a different you'd get more neutrals. I reckon it'll be a cracker. Classic big bully nad guy v the good guy.

So there wasn't a time machine at the Sci Fi convention to take you back to 1964?

If I had a time machine, I would go back to 1965 and take out Peter Mead prior to the 2nd semi.

Wasn't it KG who cost you that semi? Restarted the game in spite of the Port cheer squad blocking the South players from jumping at the goal line.

We are playing great footy at the moment our defense is as good as last season but we our definitely scoring more and have more options up forward.

Get on down to the game Fluffy

ADELAIDE

Adelaide has been significantly boosted by the presence of Brad Crouch and Wayne Milera for Sunday’s blockbuster against South at Hickinbotham Oval.
Crouch, who has recovered from a hamstring strain, will make his comeback in the SANFL with former Central livewire Milera, who has overcome a thigh complaint.
Former Glenelg running defender Scott Spriggs could make his debut with the SANFL Crows after being named on the extended interchange bench.
Ex-Carlton goalsneak Troy Menzel couldn’t be considered after suffering concussion in the first half against Glenelg last round.
Defender Andy Otten will miss the next two weeks due to being suspended for making intentional contact with umpire Leigh Haussen in Round 5.

That's South done. Crouch decimated Sturt when he played against us last year. Mind you the Ravens also had Podsiadly up forward in the same game, and they were both a class above.
I imagine that if South had their work cut out beating the Ravens before, they'd have no hope now that Crouch is in the side. He is just too good at this level.
Bad luck Panthers. That's all it is; luck that happens to be bad this time around. Crouch will either get injured or play AFL next round, but the next SANFL side to play the Ravens will not have to face them with Crouch on the field.
Potentially good contest has just been killed off, and the side most deserving to take on the league leaders has just spun up the chamber with the bullet in it.

So whilst South could get whipped by a once off addition to the side as you say, they could also bask in the satisfaction of beating a side which 'played to the line' with its best player sitting on the fence so he doesn't unnecessarily injure himself for his AFL return. Shit sandwich.

I believe it maybe be a bit wintry at Hickinbotham on Sunday; less than pristine conditions i would think, which may suit the home team.
I think you will find the much heralded Crouch will earn every touch, Im tipping he will be shadowed by some one from "the dark side" who is the best tagger in the business.
Looking forward to this, We will certainly know where we stand in the scheme of things after this game.
Panthers by 14 points. :D

And this reflect all that is wrong with the concept of having AFL teams in the comp. South will be beaten by a team stacked with full-time professional players, if a limit restriction was in place restricting the maximum professional players to say 16 then a more level playing field would be achieved and supporters, like me, would attend these games in anticipation of a good contest. South will compete because they are a good side however they can't beat an AFL loaded side, no SANFL team can as proven this year. We can only hope injuries rob the AFL teams of their players which is an appalling thing to wish for in any sporting contest. To rub additional salt into the SANFL clubs wounds the games administrators restrict interchange to 60 rotations further enhancing the AFL teams of complete dominance. This is why on Sunday i'll be at home thinking of cricket.

How many AFL blokes played in that trial earlier in the year? South only fell short by a couple of goals and with a few out. Could be a tighter contest than some think....then again the cows could blast them away in the final quarter

South got screwed over by a top-notch Ravens last year, didn't it?
It's what gave us the window to reach the finals, IIRC.
