West Torrens had a very good result in that CA Accreditation. Obviously made stuff all difference as not long after they were told to merge or risk being dumped.

So what is SACA doing to minimise damage to the clubs that they have put under the pump, and survive the cull? I would suggest no clearances of first choice players from senior and junior squads from now until the end of next season.

If Adelaide Uni is not going to be near the Uni and with West Torrens not at Thebarton - and being in potentially the same spot, wouldn't it be easier to merge those two into a new team. Saves Woodville and Port Adelaide being in merger spotlight.
After all, it seems that WTDCC have the juniors that AUCC need.

Call em the Black Eagles and carry on.

West Torrens/Uni
Woodville/Port
Prospect/East Torrens
Glenelg/Adelaide

New team and facilities at Mount Barker (Strathalbyn, Murray Bridge, all Adelaide Hills towns within 30 mins)
New facilities at Southern District.
Push Northern Dist further north with new facilities.

10 Premier cricket teams. Covers all of greater Adelaide. Redbacks will still finish bottom.

Would need more than a mop and bucket to get four mergers based on the current state of play.

Seriously doubt it.

The 10 clubs not named in the initial announcement have turned their focus to further strengthen their position through the Cricket Australia Premier Cricket Club accreditation. Every 6 months the clubs are assessed on criteria and must also submit monthly financial reports to SACA to be eligible to receive their funding.

Further to clubs picking the carcass of the 3 in the gun, There are also some nervous parents of juniors asking neighbouring clubs about trials for next season.....

SACA reckon there is no junior development in the future for Western Suburbs teams. At our trials this week for Ray Sutton teams, etc we were expecting about 20 kids, and had 58 turn up! So much for that theory! I am sure Uni will love to get their hands on all of them!!

SACA and Uni don't know anything about the new playing fields...really?
And Uni are not getting juniors... even though two clubs at least have been told they are by SACA.

Thats easy then. The 3 clubs who are under the pump, and the rest of the grade cricket competition should demand a statutory declaration be signed by both the SACA and Adelaide University, that states that West Beach won't be used by University either now, or for the next 25 years and that University wont have juniors for the next 25 years. Have the stat dec done up, so that it's signed off by this board of the SACA and covers all future boards from making this decision. This way, a new board can't come in and say "it wasn't us who signed that". Simple really.

Yes in a report that really went nowhere on the issue of mergers.

Called for Northern Districts to be left at Salisbury and start another completely new club in Gawler  makes perfect sense.

*Will give credit regarding the balls used in First Grade and Pitch preparation being funded by the Association, implemented and on a whole worked reasonably well.

I'm sure WT wont mind a rival club advertising their RSS trials to schools located in postcodes 5032 and 5022 :D

The actual situation is that kids who go to schools in PCs 5022 and 5032 DO NOT all live in post codes 5022 and 5032. Just covering all bases so no one misses out on playing for the mighty Western Eagles.

Just a quirk in the system......hence why you can elect to play for a neighbouring club than the one you live in without going through a heap of bullshit...

Are zones likely to disappear when the number of teams are reduced?

We heard this was happening, got raised at Delegates meeting on Monday and SACA reps said they had no intention at this stage to remove zones. As usual, who knows who to believe?

Got told today that the SACA said they had a report based on the census, that there are not enough kids in the western suburbs to support 3 grade clubs. Is that true, that when West Torrens asked to see those stats and the report......they were told NO and refused access? Surely that can't be right? How can the SACA wheel out these figures and then won't produce the evidence. Please tell me if this is true or not?

Have heard the same.

Supposedly also has stuff in there saying that the western suburbs clubs haven't produced enough state players but listed Blewett, Klinger, O'Brien, Cleary as state players Kensington has produced.

Great effort by Southern District to make the finals and finish 3rd. They've slowly been building a team down there - mostly local guys that have come through their juniors. Been getting a bit more competitive each season, taken the next step this year. Bice Oval pitch and outfield much improved now as well.

They've historically seemed to battle with losing players "down the hill" whether it's Chris Davies, Simon Roberts, Shae Stuivenberg, Adam/Alex Carey... plus I remember hearing one of their coaches talk about how hard it was to recruit players from interstate given that they're 40+ minutes from the city. The other thing that used to hurt them was losing promising juniors back to their local club's A Grade team rather than fight their way through the B's, C's and D's. Perhaps that culture has changed a bit?

Sturt at Sturt is a big ask but would be great to see a new team in a grand final. Have they made a GF before?
