I wasn't being overtly critical of BPBRB, just stating what I had heard from my source (very much on the inside at bomberland) and how it differed from the original post.

When it was mentioned that Sheedy could be a chance of going to Richmond, I did wonder if the Crows would look into that suggestion!

Still I think that even if the Crows lost the next 6 games in a row Craig would still be retained by the club for 2008, if they dont make the finals next year you may well see some momentum gained in that direction though!

What's the record for the most coaches sacked in a season?

Who else is in trouble?

Craig is safe for at least the next two years. With the team he's had at his disposal this year I don't think too much more could be expected.

It's hard on someone that has served so well on a club for so long with that sucuess but realisticaly its a big business and the bombers have missed Finals the last 2 years and although where they are I think theres alot of doubt on them making the finals this year.

This is a tough decision which could be a blessing new coach fresh start new ideas etc etc or really Essendons new coach will have the hardest job of the lot to fill and may not find himself (or her...... ) up for it and they could spiral down

All the Best to the Bombers and Sheedy this decision must had ate away at them what a tough call but could be for the better.

Terry Wallace at Richmond may well be on shaky ground, the Tigers have made no secret of their offers to Sheedy to take a contract with them in previous years. Wallace feels that Richmond need another three years to become competitive. If Richmond are to go back to square one and work on a three year plan, a review of the coaching staff is likely to happen.

The other move that might happen is Leigh Matthews might quit Brisbane at the end of the year to move back to Melbourne, maybe with one of the Melbourne coaching jobs on offer. Plenty of people are saying Mark Harvey, yet who would the board at Essendon really prefer, Mark Harvey or Leigh Matthews?

Well done to Sheeds on his great coaching career, I wish he stayed on as coach, because he is the best coach in the business. Hopefully he will be coaching somewhere else, because any club should take a coach like him

Spot on smac, most of the media are saying he was sacked, but he has not been sacked. His contract expires at the end of the season, and will not be renewed, if he was sacked he would not be coaching 'til the end of the season (his contract term). Apparantley he knew in January that this would most likely be the last year he coached Essendon.
Sheeds has been coach for 27 years, I've been following the Bombers for 28 years.

How well to clubs move on from having an iconic coach?????

My prediction, it will take Essendon at least 2 coaches and 5 years to find success after Sheeds is gone, hope I'm wrong, but time will tell.

Is the sacking yet another Sheedy tactic on getting his boys to fire up a little? Its not unlike Sheeds to try things a bit different.

One rumour is that if Essendon take on an untried coach, Sheeds may stay on in some sort of mentoring role.

thats not a bad idea, but if Kevin was asked to coach another club, which do you think he would take?

'Director of Coaching' - good idea but past results aren't there:

Parkin mentoring Brittain at Carlton
Cahill mentoring Ginever at PAM

I'm not sure if the Ben Kenobi role is more of an interference to the new guy than a help but I guess it depends on the personalities involved

If you keep him as a mentor, why not just have him be the coach and be done with it?
