I had backed Smith, Frawley and Mitchell for Norm, even with my hip pocket in mind im happy to concede Cyril was BOG. Game was over at half time, he was best at that point

Definitely the best team since the AFL started

Most successful, yes. Best? Debatable. The Hawks are the "AFL All Stars" now. They've recruited exceptional well as the acquisitions of Frawley and Lake in particular have proven. There is an extra 44 players in the league now which means logically the standard cannot be the same. I still reckon that the current Hawks are t as good as Essendon 1999-01, Brisbane 1999-2004 and Geelong 2007-11. You could state a case for North and the Eagles in the nineties too. The competition is soft these days, Geelong made the top four last year for a start.

Hawthorn are without doubt the best drilled side that I can recall since the Eagles 1990-1994. Al Clarkson might go down as the best coach of all time. It's certainly up to the other clubs to catch up but Hawthorn are primed to win more flags as long as Cyril, Mitchell and Hodge stay sound.

regards,

REB

And yet this Geelong side of 07-11 couldnt beat this mediocre team of 08 that you speak of  ;)

I would like to thank west coast for them taking the heat of me for the swans supporter. West coast were much worse yesterday.
Hawks took the foot off at 3 qtr time and also cost me winning 140

Oh the poor things !

W. Coast Travel East a dozen times for the season!

Hawthorn DONT DESERVE a HOME Grand Final but thats just the benefit the Victorian teams get regardless of whether they deserve it or not !

The AFL is all about making money and Maximizing the value of their product, couldn't give a rats about fairness.

so what you're saying is WCE should've had 3 home finals? You're dreaming. I reckon it wouldn't have mattered anyway, on yesterday's form, Hawks would've beaten them anywhere. Yeah, it is about $$ and so it should be.

But if Collingwood finish top or second, they would receive three home finals.
The reason this happens is fundamentally ridiculous, and wouldn't happen it the AFL was overseen by a genuine custodian of the game
But its does happen and there's no discernment between the good of the game and making money here. They take the money almost every time, and it's killing the game.

Time to implement a rotating roster. Start off at the G and then go around to SA, WA, QLD and NSW

Don't think we need a roster.
Either the right to host a home final is earned, or it happens at a neutral venue.
Even Eddie complains when an unfair process goes against his club. To accept unfair benefits is just hypocrisy.

Those states need to build 100k capacity stadiums. Would be a joke holding a GF at one of the other tinpot stadiums

That went better than expected. :)

I reckon you were better in 08 than now. No matter how many flags you win in this 18 team comp nothing will convince me that if we played 08 over ten times we would win at least 8 of them. The fact we won the next 11 gives a better indication than that one match.

Bullshit. If you can't win at the G you don't deserve the flag.

It's like the SANFL never existed.
It is a Victorian comp now, some people have swallowed the fact without side effects.

Geelong were great for 5 minutes, hardly even in the conversation when it comes to greatest team of all despite your club trying to convince itself every time it wins a game.
The only debate now is which Hawthorn era is better, no other club in the picture.
If this team wins 4 in a row it will become number 1.
I also reckon the fact we have won the last 2 so easy devalues the achievment in some peoples eyes like yourself. Had they been close 10 point wins you would rate them higher which is just crazy. The dismantling of the 2nd best teams the last 2 years has been nothing short of extraordinary

Thoughts on moving the Boxing Day test?

Would like to see what it would be like if Melbourne had their test when we do and vice versa. Apart from the first day, not sure there would be too much difference, especially given the comparative populations.

Anyway, GF should always be at MCG, but teams need at least 3 games during the year. If you've finished in the top 6 or 8, you deserve to play at the MCG against those teams rather than going to Tassie, eg Freo v HW this year,
Maybe Hawthorn should be recognised for their foresight to stay at the MCG rather than go to Cocklands like other teams?

Boxing day test? Now how's that relevant?
Think the Australia Day test situation would be a much closer comparison, right?
