PAGAN ... GOOOOOOOOOOOONE!

Postby Benchwarmer » Mon Jul 23, 2007 1:28 pm

Press conference this afternoon which will state the obvious ... it's time to go, Dennis!

I hear that Humphrey and Fat Cat are the two leading contenders for the job for the rest of the season.

Brett Ratten is likely to fill in, though some say Craig Bradley will. Either man suits me, but the problem is 2008, 2009 and 2010 - are we going to make any progress?

And here I was saying that it is looking promising six weeks ago

It won't make any difference saintal. The Blues are a bloody rabble and while they had to do something, I'm fairly sure that Pagan isn't the sole reason for their ills. They shouldn't have been penalised so harshly, the AFL might kill off a cash cow. They should have been forced to hand over the 95 cup  rather than be crippled for a decade or maybe longer.

regards,

Not quite REB!

We should have handed over John Elliott to the AFL instead just like we did with Ian Collins.

As you said, the AFL might have done more harm than they liked. Remember around that time Essendon and Melbourne did the same thing, though maybe to a lesser extent. If Essendon had the same penalty as us then I am sure they'd be in the same boat. Melbourne are just suffering in a different way now - but they'll probably blame that on being under-resourced with the recruiting staff, etc, etc compared to "those wealthy interstate clubs".

Just thought that I'd drag this one out of the closet to give my two cents worth.
The fact that Barry Mitchell was allowed to continue on with Carlton in any capacity in 2007 was a slap in the face to Pagan of the highest order and I think it's fair to say a lot of coaches would have resigned in similar circumstances.

I will throw my 2 cents in.

The board made a terrible decison in the first place to interview Barry Mitchell when Pagan was still officially the coach, if they wanted him gone then Sack Him, then conduct interviews. But then too interview Mitchell offer him the job and try and throw Pagan out only for it not to be successful. Then were does that leave the Mitchell and Pagan relationship? Down the Toilet thats where it leaves it,

How did the board expect Pagan to work with a bloke who went behind his back to get his job? How can Carlton and the Bullants work together properly if both Coaches dont Talk at all? and one coach's office is on one side of Optus Oval and Mitchell's is on the Other.

How can the players adjust when some used Mitchell as a mentor but now he was on the outer? Or would Mitchell play the Carlton listed players in the positions that Pagan wanted him too for the Bullants?

Mitchell is an astute thinker about the game and you can see he is held in high regard because as soon as pagan's office is empty he is back in the Fray with Ratten.

It was a Monumental **** up by the board and Mitchell and i dont blame Pagan one bit for looking over his shoulder constantly and not wanting to associate with Mitchell. For a club that is struggling on the field as it is ( No disrespect SJABC ) the board just made matters a lot worse by making it hard for the Coaching team to work together off the field as well.

That's along my lines of thought Pup..
Although the tensions between Pagan and Mitchell started last season...The job interview etc just added too it.
Hopefully with Ratts onboard, the club can move forward and become the power it once was...
