I would be quite supportive of a Turnbull-led government if it was Turnbull-led. However, sadly, Malcolm has already turned his back on all the things that divided him from Tony - he will make no change to the gay marriage agenda, no change to asylum seekers, no change to the climate change policy, no change to the republican agenda - except giving Water to the Nationals via the Dept of Agriculture (a retrograde step).

Yes, a Turnbull-led government keeping true to Turnbull's personal beliefs would have been fine. Sadly, all we have got is an Abbott government that practices better elocution.

Until people en-masse boycott the Murdoch press, we'll always be subject to his manipulation of the electorate.

Well, haters are always going to hate.
I remember when Abbott was made Leader and the derision and mockery was deafening. That turned out well for Labor.
Now, Labor's worst nightmare has happened.
Pass the popcorn please

the reply was in response to the post of "gillard was being white anted by rudd" ,when it was billy boy ( so to speak yes rudd was involved ) doing it all TWICE !
Changing the opposition leader is not as bad as changing a sitting PM !! all oppositions change their leaderd when in opposition numerous times !

Billy boy - "my faith and vote is in the PM" ...when rudd was PM
Billy Boy - "my faith and vote is with the PM " ...when julia was PM"

Finally, one thing people seem to have thrown as a criticism of Abbott is that he was uncaring. Personally I think it's the total opposite but the vitriol those same folk who bemoaned a lack of humanity was an ugly shade of hypocrite. Too often we lack respect for our leaders despite the massively difficult job, the crazy hours and demands, the impact on families and the virtual anhiliation of ever having a private life. This despite all going in just to help. Nobody I know of has reason to hate Abbott. Or Rudd. Or Gillard, Or Shorten or any other elected official. Yet we seem to confuse disagreeing with ire. We take personal offense at a decision aimed to be the best for the entire nation. Or even at times, the world. I think that we just need to remember to respect out fellow man (or woman) better.[/quote]

OH Please!!!
Are you from Abbots far right religious mob?
The most dividing pathetic excuse for a PM this country has ever seen!

BP2: The thing is, do the majority of people want what you want from Turnbull?

"he will make no change to the gay marriage agenda" It is apparently still going to a plebiscite. Sorry, but I'm not sure what you want. Let the people decide just like in Ireland. Last time Parliament voted (when Labor was in power) it didn't get up so surely we've been there / done that. My only gripe is they should do it the same time as the election.
"no change to asylum seekers" Good (and we'll never agree on that issue so lets leave it at that)
"no change to the climate change policy" Give him time. I'm pretty sure the people have spoken about a carbon tax
"no change to the republican agenda" Give him time. My opinion is that It was the model that people rejected last time - it certainly was for me.
"except giving Water to the Nationals via the Dept of Agriculture (a retrograde step)" In your opinion. Let's see what happens. Everyone else has screwed it up.

Old saying in politics: you cant achieve anything from opposition.
Turnbull couldn't achieve anything if Captain Australia was still there

Julie Bishop is very cleaver and calculating. My thoughts are she will lead the coalition to a election victory in 2019 an become a long serving PM.

I believe she is playing the long game.

Labor's worst nightmare

Now they're saying there won't be a big swing in Canning because the by-election was due to a death

Well it doesn't look like any of this will go away anytime soon. Hard to work out how else was to be thrown under the bus. Scott Morrison claims that he was approach to throw Joe under the bus for his support and become Treasurer.

If you can work out who knifed who then your doing better than me. Seems like a right old mess really.

To elect the party that governs.

I reckon a high percentage of people vote for the person, not the party.
You're not a legitimate Prime Minister until you've won an election.

A high percentage of people seem to imagine they are voting for a party or the current party leader, but technically you vote to elect your local member only.
That's why a representative can quit the party and still remain the elected representative for the electorate.

In our non-Presidential system, the vote is never intended to determine who will be (or remain) the party leader.
You are legitimate Prime Minister if the members of the ruling party elect you as their leader at some time.

PS: I am hopeful that Malcolm Turnbull will stay PM and that he will bring the party back to the middle ground where a fair balance will be struck between financial responsibility and the financial burden of paying for the ALP financial profligacy.

In my view the first Abbott/Hockey budget failed because it was too much too soon and did not distribute the costs of its aims fairly. That clumsiness of the Libs first budget meant it was largely blocked and then backed away from because of the furor. So, it achieved no real change to the growth of the deficit already set up to happen before the ALP lost power. By then the Libs were scared by the reaction and went back to trying to regain popularity with a much softer financial policy a la the ALP. (And in extreme form by successive Greek governments.)

A more humane and realistic plan to contain the growing deficit that involved hitting the big end of town (and our pollies) harder than the poorer members of the population may have been accepted and had more success by now. (I did suggest to the Liberal Party hierarchy that a salary sacrifice by the Liberal pollies to show sincerity may have been a good move.)
