Yep, might sound petty, but this was the last straw for me, symptomatic of what really was going on behind the scenes whilst we were being lied to.

Obviously it'd avoid potential final round player circuses caused by AFL sides resting players. Then we still get our place in the sun by having our grand final the week after the AFL finishes, and even the preliminary final thing day after the AFL grannie provides a footy fix for those who don't want the footy season to end. Those two stand alone finals possibly also provide a hook to bring in the occasional AFL supporters to one or two sanfl games a year.
No afl in the SANFL, but in the meantime can't we at least improve the conditions of the deal?
There was no way the AFL teams were going to come in unless the SANFL brought the final series forward. For example, this year that would make the GF 11th October and if Port made it then their AFL listed players would not come back for preseason until early December after their mandatory 8 week break, when most teams will be starting early November. SANFL bent over, simple.
Sorry but that just shows how weak the SANFL are. It used to be our comp so they play by OUR rules not the way they wanted it.
RIP SANFL
I asked the question of Chiggy at the Glenelg info night, this is before the official decision was made, "can you guarantee the SANFL GF will be played after the AFL GF?"....his response was the GF was likely to change, so that was obviously part of the agreement/negotiations

The never ending No AFL in the SANFL whinge thread
Just got an email from the club and Essendon has included 7 players who played AFL this round into our VFL side for their semi against Footscray. Footscray will have 14 AFL listed players and Essendon 12.
Essendon won last weeks Elimination final with 5 AFL listed players.
Bit of a joke when you can load up like that

You sure???? Thought they were all over here trying to woo Worsfold to coach
12 players is quite tame when you look at Port playing 20 plus Summerton in the G/F last year.

If you want to go quickly, go alone.

Re: The never ending No AFL in the SANFL whinge thread
Did anyone see the messenger this week?
"sanfl clubs say the success of footy at Adelaide oval has led to a downturn in crowds at their games.
"Figures released exclusively to newscorp Australia show minor round attendances at sanfl matches was down by 13 percent in 2015 and clubs dispute the theory that supporter backlash against the entry of AFL reserves teams was the cause."
"Instead they say the runaway success of footy in the city meant fans who baulked at live afl at West lakes had returned, causing some to desert the sanfl.
....
"' There's no doubt that success of Adelaide oval has had an effect on sanfl crowds,' WWT chief executive Peter Shwarz said.
"The league average attendance fell from 2819 in 2014 to 2453 this year.
"Crowds were down 6.3 % on 2013.
"SANFL general manager Adam Kelly said the cold winter had an impact and pointed to the fact league wide membership was up.
"' Crowds were) impacted significantly by the cold and wet conditions, ' said Kelly who added crowds were healthy in August. "
So apparently all of you who've quit local footy are sneaking off to Adelaide Oval without telling the rest of us!
Also, Spelly has somehow been accessing figures that were "exclusively released to newscorp Australia ".
And the rain that fell in August was responsible for crowds being down during July, yet somehow didn't affect crowds negatively during the month that it fell as they were "healthy " during that time!
They also seem not to have figures that show CROWDS ARE DOWN AT AFL GAMES AT ADELAIDE OVAL on last year. These figures which for the purposes of this article don't seem to exist would question why crowds have not, correspondingly, returned to the Sanfl.
