I thought it was pretty much a proven fact that D7 to D6 was a huge leap?

This year was weird but traditionally its been 50% C Grade in D7, compared to D6 which is 0% or Adelaide Uni sometimes.

That difference makes the leap immense. You're no longer playing sides every second week which don't train, don't get paid and don't really give a hoot and run into clubs desperate to improve - which includes massive budgets.

Ditto, although 2 to 1 remains massive (albeit not as big as it once was)

thats a great point the standard of div 7 has possibly lifted due to the semi professionalism in "all" teams

I'd argue, the real gap from 1 to 2, is the top 3-5 teams. That's generally the gap, I think usually, the top 5 sides in division 2, would be pretty well equal with the bottom 5-7 of Division 1 most years.

This is the worst standard I've ever seen D7. It's been diabolical.

Your great Henley sides of the early 00's would be pushing Houghton all the way and dare I say it would go close to beating them. Your 2012 C Grade was better than the current Mitchell Park side. Just think, you could've been playing off in the granny instead of us!

Let alone the Paralowie, Smithfield, Ingle Farm and Mitchell Park '12 sides of era's gone by

Don't think you'll find there was any massive budgets floating around in div 6 this year Morell (maybe BL but that didn't pan out well).
Yes it is a step up to play only A & B grade teams, but as an A&B grade club this is where you should be playing.
Would be great to have you and Houghton come up to make a 10 team div 6, in what should be a very even competition next year.

There is always one club in D6 that pays through the roof. In previous years it was CLG and Rosewater. I reckon Smithfield's budget would be pretty sizable and I know Lockleys pay ok.

Payments are only one aspect though, as you correctly point out. The training, commitment and motivation with D6 A Grade sides is orders of magnitude higher than your average D7 side. Makes a monumental difference.

Would agree with that - in particular the bottom half.. although think the standard improved as the season wore on.

2013 was unbelievable in D6. We won 5 games (including beating the eventual premiers in WOS) and still finished second to bottom. Still amazes me to this day that our 2012 side won in a canter and has multiple 30+ goal victories in D7, we added some real quality to that squad, and still went nowhere in D6 in 2013. The CLG, WOS, Rosewater, BOS and Lockleys sides that year were all very good. CLG in particular were insane.

2014 was a fair way off that mark, I reckon our 2013 team would have made impact in the '14 finals. So if 2015 was another step down from 2014 then maybe the D7 to D6 gap has closed a little...

Hmm 2014 wasn't that bad at the top end - Rosewater, Blackfriars, West Croydon and Lockleys were very good sides and Ingle Farm did start the season all guns blazing to go 8-1 or something ridiculous like that.

Ingle Farm added a lot of quality to their premiership side of 2013, made finals but didn't have an impact on them.

BOS and Rosewater have gone on to have strong seasons in D5 and WC & Lockleys have been pretty much dominated this season.

However I think the ease in which Lockleys and West Croydon have beaten sides by such large margins this season shows how much the standard has changed since 2014 though given the core of their squads haven't changed a great deal.

No not at all, 2014 was about as "normal" as a year in D6 could be I suppose. But 2013 was off the hook. Incredible standard. CLG that year were the best side I've ever played against.

and as I said, we finished second to bottom with the best Mitchell Park squad in 10 years.

Mate, their coach detailed some of their payments in another thread! That and their ex coach plays for us!

They have a good culture down there, I am not saying its untoward by any means and they've been consistently sustainable - but they definitely pay players. Which in the context of the discussion (the leap from D7 to D6) makes them above several other clubs from the outset.

you've probably used the wrong word Morell, "pays" insinuates that everyone gets it.

and not everyone gets it.

Get it? ;)
