batmanbegins wrote:As I've said before this a series between two average sides, England's batting has been very average this series also only Joe Root has been the difference. Hes top scored in the first Innings of the 3 matches England have won, plus he's the only bloke averaging over 31. Broad has also been exceptional but other than that everybody else has just chipped in other then Maybe Finn who has been pretty good in his 3 tests. If you go through both sides there have been plenty of average players; England Lyth- Awful will get dropped Cook-Average captaincy much improved but Batting has let him down Bell- Avrage but chipped in with a couple handy 50s Root- The Difference between the teams Bairstow- average made a nice 70 odd though Stokes- Average but one hell of a spell last test Butler- Awful but is very talented Ali- Handy never going to a great bowler but his Innings with the bat have been game changing Broad- Best Bowler in either side Finn- Good Wood- Average but I like him just needs to bowl more and more Anderson- One good spell which started the rout in the 3rd test Balance- Awful
Australia Rogers- Very good and wil be missed Warner- This may sound harsh but I think hes been average, consistently wasting decent starts Smith- Good but when he fails the team loses at the minute Clarke- Awful but been a heck of a player Voges- Awful till his last two digs when the series was over Marsh- Handy with the ball but his batting struggles as shown by his FC average of 32 Nevill- Average Johnson- Been average in my eyes, He misses Harris big time Starc- gets wickets but goes for plenty and makes life harder for MJ Hazlewood- Thought hed be really good in England but lacked control Lyon- Been really good and never lets the team down Watson and S Marsh- Meh Siddle- Should of been picked tests ago if the Aussies weren't so arrogant and thought they could just blast England away
There is only a handful of blokes on either side that would get a pass Mark, which shows this a series between two average side. If Harris plays for the Aussies they win in my opinion although defending 60 might have been hard even for him.
Siddle rightly cops our mocking for his giant cement like head and enlarged Warney Whitened teeth and don't get me started on being a vegeterian but credit where it's due his bowling last night was outstanding. He dried up the runs and bowled a fourth stump line doing a bit in the air and of the seam both ways. I found his selection pretty comical but I say well done to Rod Marsh.
Hazlewood has often flooded runs in this series and has allowed crucial partnerships to get off to a flyer. When we beat the Poms 5-0 Sidds was crucial in tying up an end and boring out Petersen to the point of him becoming his bunny. In the end it has been shown we have selected poorly for this series. He could easily have got 4/10 last night as the Poms had no answer and his bowling in partnership probably assisted in getting M2 a couple of scalps.
Hopefully we can have another good day today and have them all out for around 120 and to quote the great Bill Lawry "Let's see if these bastards can chase down 900"

Has siddle saved his career with his bowling overnight?
Would seem to me that it is now up to hazelwood to force his way back into the team again.

The balance of the attack looked better last night. See what happens in the second dig but 3 attacking seamers and no Watson to do that role is great when they catch fire but that hasn't worked the charm in this series. Admittedly it's the middle order that cost us the Ashes but the bowlers haven't quite got the job done either. It's certainly not career over if he is bowling well and he is a lion hearted honest battler. Could have used that last cuttla tests.

This is why I'm so pissed off at getting beaten by the bastards. They are not good. We've just been deplorable during some key moments.

It's a joke isn't it. I love watching this but can't help but be pissed off with the fact that we're doing it now and not 2 test matches ago.
In the last hour they have only had 2 in the box and it actually seems better, because it is harder to have a matey mate in joke with just one other person in the box.
All the series they've only had two on commentary and it sounded weird last night whem tubs was all on his own for half an hour last night, but agree with the general idea of not having three.

I see it a bit differently RB, this series has been disappointing as a contest because of the lack of key 50-50 moments, a couple in the first test, apart from that only a little while on the second morning of the third test.
Didn't know this, all 11 of Steve Smith's Test centuries have been in the first innings.

Hey definitely had 3 in the box early in the series
Root gone! 3/123 MJ 1/46 off 10 Siddle 1/10 off 10 Sids had Bell in all sorts. Nevill keeping well, Starc was bowling some absolute pus, one ball he was taking it at leg slip the next infront of second slip. Was spraying them everywhere
