(Pav was getting $550k from Freo while Carey was getting paid less than $350K).

he was discussing the scenario before Carey joined the Crows there its safe to say he was discussing their current salaries not the asking price

you've misunderstood me dutchy.

Carey was getting $300k - $350k while at the Crows. This was approximately half of his salary at the 'roos.
Pav had been offered $550k by Freo for the same year.

It was rumoured that Pav was prepared to take $450K from the Crows if they agreed.
Their preference was Carey instead.

From memory, Pav's current salary is $600+K.
He might be prepared to take a cut to come to the crows but they will still have a lot of headaches offloading the players to fit him in.

I know from experience recently with one of our staff who relocated to Perth

Cost of living in Adelaide is slightly cheaper than Perth so Pav may be able to take a small cut without noticing difference to his standard of living

They could re-negotiate some of the older guys' contracts ... a la Brisbane players offering to take cuts to keep their side as a Premiership threat

If it meant getting Pav they might do it

that would be one of the few options they have hondo71.
How many players do you think would drop $50k to get the pav?
even if you're on $400+k that's still a lot of dough to give up.

i don't know how close the crows are to the cap atm but they are normally close to the limit.
as i said earlier, the red hot favourite for where he'll play is still freo.

i'd love to see him at the fruit tingles though.

when the Crows got Carey, Pav was not available, he had committed himself to Freo

their was no choice to make between Pav and Carey, because Pav was not available at the time.

only chance to get Pav is the go-home factor

despite being at freo for 8 years, he sat there watching mods and co at footy park as a youngster and maybe theres a part of him that always wanted play at the crows one day

plus i would assume family are here... all just speculation but these things do happen

Not worth trading the next generation of midfielders though... with roo, edwards etc departing shortly we would be foolish to trade away youthful midfielders or early draft picks for a forward

yes pav can play midfield but he wouldn't all the time

why presume that it would only be SA clubs chasing him, he may well have just had enough of the crap at Freo and would consider elsewhere

No one player is worth that much. Teams win not "stars". If you squeeze everyone else to pay one player that much it can't really help the team much.

Big difference to what happened at Brisbane, They took cuts to keep a premiership side together - not to bring in a big recruit. Couldnt see players taking a pay cut to bring someone in at any club.

not true.
Pavlich only committed to Freo after it was clear that Adelaide's preference was Carey.
Adelaide's commitment to Carey came long before the end of the season.

Why dont the Crows do the usual..... Goal Kicking Coach, Publicity Manager,Media Liason Manager, or the current Ben Hart position and defer the salary for a few years with token positions. Its unbelieveable that the best qualified person in Adelaide is always an ex-player :? . Who replaced Darren Jarman as goal kicking coach by the way???

Again Reddenwhite chimes in to Crow-snipe, this time not even sticking to the topic.

I'll issue a correction anyway:

Assistant coach - Paul Hamilton, games with Crows = ZERO
Assistant coach - Peter Jonas, games with Crows = ZERO
Assistant coach - David Noble, games with Crows = ZERO
General Manager - John Reid, games with Crows = ZERO
Communications Manager - David Burtenshw, games with Crows = ZERO
General Manager, Commercial Ops - Phil Harper, games with Crows = ZERO

But, yes, apart from the above minor roles, some ex-players have KEY roles in junior development (visiting schools) and goal-kicking

I didn't realise Ben Hart, Darel Hart, Matthew Robran and Stephen Schwerdt would do much visiting of schools in their roles of Coterie Services Executive, Assistant to Football Development & SANFL observer, Events & Fundraising Manager and Physical Performance Manager?

PS It'd be great to see Pav in Crows colours. :D

Did I say there were no ex-players on staff? Do you think having 4 ex-players on the payroll gives RW's comments any cred?

Apart from Schwerdty, do you think the roles you listed are absolutely KEY to the Crows - that was my point, forget the visiting schools line ...

Wedgie, in your role as RW's wing-man, can you tell us how his comments have anything to do with the potential recruitment of Pav?

Nah I agree with you (every club has ex players in various roles off field, I think its a good thing and as an eg I hardly think Barrie Robran signed with North in the 60s so he could get a role in marketing in the 2000s), I think its great to involve ex players in a club, hardly RW's wing-man just because I pointed out a few examples you casually failed to omit! Don't be so touchy mate! Geelong actually have 3 ex players as Assistant coaches at the moment so who am I to speak?

To try and get the thread back on topic as I said in my previous post I'd love to see Pav in Crows colours, I couldn't stand seeing him in Port colours, would rather him stay at Freo, hopefully its Adelaide or nothing. :D
