Re: Black listed companies
here's one that might qualify
Smeg Appliances.
spent nearly $7k on oven, rangehood, dishwasher, cooktop.
they have been installed around 2.5 years. the oven has been fixed twice.
and then a couple of weeks ago, BOTH the rangehood and dishwasher both shat themselves.
rang them and told them i expected them both to be covered by the warranty (which was 2 years) and after a bit (well a lot) of haggling (i might have mentioned that magic four letter word ACCC), they have agreed to come out and fix them under warranty. hopefully they do.
major sticking point was the fact that i actually bought them back in 2010, on a good special and they sat unopened in their boxes for 2 years. so then i have to try and prove that they were installed when i said they were, which is basically impossible for a dishwasher. but i told them i have an oven compliance certificate with a date on it, and after haggling for a while and her talking to her supervisor she finally accepted that.
they will come out next week so hopefully everything goes smoothly. but still not happy that they seem so unreliable, given smeg have a good repuation, and they look so goddamn good.

Miele
Bought an expensive oven and cooktop and both are crap.
The 'self cleaning' oven is a PITA to clean, the markings on the temperature dial have rubbed off
, and the gas burners on the cooktop struggle to stay alight.
Never again.

at least with the smeg stuff i cant complain about the actual operation - the cooktop is great, oven is awesome (though it has about 12 different ******* modes on it) and the dishwasher cleaned really well (before the water pump shat itself obviously haha)

Re: Black listed companies
We've got an Ariston dishwasher and the dishwasher door doesn't shut properly. We've had two technicians out and they both can't work it out. Essentially the clip is a bit of plastic that won't engage properly. I would think it's a 50c bit of plastic causing the issue. 50c for a 500 buck dishwasher.... myah..... Problem is that it's in our holiday house and it's been used maybe 50 times in 3 years. So of course warranty is over even though we've hardly used it.

Yes numerous times! The call centre people are clueless, just offer lame excuses and try and stick shit on you. Don't believe me, just read the Whirlpool forum.

Re: Black listed companies
When I rented a house for 6 months in Wayville in 2003 - over here from Melbourne temporarily for family issues - the SMEG appliances taught me why "Smeg!" was a swear word in Red Dwarf.
I haven't owned a Miele oven, but the first Miele washer/dryer stack we had lasted 16 years and the pair I currently have are 10 years old and have never needed repairs. The Miele dishwasher we owned at one time was still doing fine when we sold the house 10 years later too.
Currently I've had a Bosch cook top and oven and a Maytag dishwasher for 5 years with no trouble, but as a bachelor I'm a light user of those - I rarely cook, and use the same dishes over and over, washing them by hand most of the time. (The Maytag was in the house when I bought it so I don't know its age.)
That said, times change, and we may not be able expect the same performance from name brands as in the past .
I've been looking for a new car, and at car reliability statistics via the J D Power site (and other sources) and it doesn't look like I could expect to get the trouble free motoring out of a new German car brand I've had with my 1996 Audi until late last year. I suspect.too much is being built in Spain, Portugal, and the Czech Republic, and not Germany any more.
I think I may stick to Japanese in the car market...

It can still be done then - it probably just depends on which makes and models...

As I said it depends on which models.
Wikipedia: "The Porsche Cayenne, introduced in 2002, shares its entire chassis with VW Touareg and Audi Q7, which are built at the Volkswagen factory in Bratislava."

But can it self drive you home from one side of Adelaide to the other when you're pissed after Glenelg B&Fs or other like functions??? If not, it is no good to you....
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

That reminds me of a great-uncle in Moonta who used to get around with a pony and trap right into the 1970s.
Whenever anyone teased him about not having a car he'd always point out that the pony knew the way home from the pub, even when he didn't, and was trained to open the barn door and take them both in out of the cold.
I never saw him actually drunk, and suspect he just preferred the cheap transport.

True, but it wouldn't be a problem if so-called mates actually gave me a lift home ...

Sure, then take it home to the Port afterwards and I'll pick it up a few days later from Gilman after the joy riders have finished ...
