Crows Game Day = Unpalatable

Talk on the national game

Crows Game Day = Unpalatable

Postby leftlegger » Mon Jul 02, 2007 10:42 am

Every year I get the chance to see a couple of crows games when a ticket is made available to me.
On Saturday I got the chance for the first time this year to watch a live AFL game.

What a bloody waste of a day.
Now with two big telly screens and a new "improved" sound system we(the crowd) were subjected to nonstop advertisements, and raft of garbage from some overhyped tool yelling into his microphone before the game and at every break. This concophony was enhanced by the insesent sounding of the new 'louder' siren for no real obvious reason.
I couldnt wait for the game to begin (just to hear some 'real' footy sounds and watch some 'real' footy (without a beer)).

Then, once the game was underway we(the crowd) layed to witness the destruction of our great game by umpiring interpretations that destroy the contest, lacked any consistency and basically frustrated the hell out of the crowd.
I can only wonder how frustrated the players get. It is a pitty because the players are highly skilled and fit and if allowed to attack every contest flat out, it would have been sensational.

Ive been attending SANFL games week in and week out all year. This week I missed the bays v sturt game so i could attend this crap. I wont be making that mistake again.
Ironically, I sat next to a Sturt supporter who has been going to watch the crows every week and he has also had enough of the sensory overload and the poor state of which the national game is in.

I am really dissappointed with what has become of a day at the crows. Give me the SANFL. At least its real.
Yeah, Naah,..... Bollocks!

I think Lefty, every thing you mention in your post regarding a day at the Crows is true, and most people on here know it.

Poor umpiring,no beer,no atmosphere all go hand in hand at Adelaide games.

I remember going to a Port Power game once (free tickets - obviously Port have the Edelston footy marketing manual from the 1980s) the empty seats provided a great atmosphere...

Poor crowd, No beer, no atmosphere and no crowd go hand in hand with a Port Power game... 8) 8)
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Spoke to a mate who went (Eagles man !!) and he said the atmosphere was akin to a wake...
Nothing going, crowd silent and almost accepted defeat before the first siren !
Must admit when I go to see the Baggers, I get looks like I'm from out of space.
I even enjoy the odd line of "F##K of Victorian..." even though I'm SA born and bred...
Ahhhh the Team for ALL South Australians !
The joy of being on the hill drinking beer cannot be understated

LMAO. I hear you buddy. I was called a Victorian !@#$%!!! because I was barracking for the Catters (and showing the grannies how real supporters behave) even though I lived in Adelaide for 30 years. I went to the one and only (oh that's right, we've won twice there now heh heh) victory at AAMI and I was singing the club song and coke cups were flying from all directions. A great day (except that they played the shocking 'updated' version of the Cat song).

btw Wrinkles. You sledged the Power for using the Edelston marketing approach but then in the very same post sledge em for a lack of atmosphere. Seems to me that they were trying to do something about those empty seats. Ugh. Defending the Power...I feel so UNCLEAN.
