The vernacular everyone is using "North, South, East and West" are known as Carindal directions - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cardinal_direction

The directional names are also routinely and very conveniently associated with the degrees of rotation in the unit circle:

East (E): 90°
South (S): 180°
West (W): 270°

In other words, you're all being imprecise with both your language and measurements.

So Mitchell Park runs 360° - 180° and Lindblom Park is North - South?

To determine if an oval is either North/South or East/West you need to first take the centreline of the oval to get an angle, then determine where that angle sits within the ranges of the unit circle and then, which of the Cardinal Direction quadrants it lies in...

It's year 10 geometry people! Am I the only one that ever used a full circle protractor?

Unrelated note.. IF lose to BOS this week, they face playing Lockleys in round 18 then again the following week.. Rosies finding form at the right time of the year, WC flying and BOS have beaten all comers.. If they dispose of IF this week blows the top 4 wide open, can IF turn it around? Exciting finish to the season and a potentially enthralling finals series ahead..

Well for **** sake, people have been slamming their proverbial slanted foreheads against each other for three pages trying to work out something I could get my 12 year old niece to solve, only trying to help.

If the Oval is between 315 and 45 when you align 0 to North, its a North South Oval. If its between 45 and 135, its an East West Oval.

Houghton, for example, is about 40 degrees, ergo, its a North South Oval. Just, by 5 degrees.

The Oval marbles posted (Seaton?), is about 55 degrees, So it's an East/West Oval. Just, but about 10 degrees.

Rosewater, is about 85 degrees. No prizes for getting that one right...

Either way, if Ingle Farm lose this week it will come down to Ingle Farm's margin over Lockley's v Rosewater's margin over Central United in round 18. The Angle Vale forfeit, which has cost Ingle Farm about 1% might be cost them a double chance.
