Re: Under 18 penalties.
Have played U18's for a few years now and can say that behaviour is no different from the behaviour of some senior players. There is always going to be a few players who are 'feral'. In my time, Gepps Cross and Ingle Farm have been much worse than the likes of Salisbury and Smithfield. I'm sure incidents do happen involving them clubs but as far as I'm concerned they have just drawn the short straw with the negative stereotype. All in all though I have only ever had 1 major incident in playing 12 years of football so I don't think its a massive issue.

On a slightly different note, its great to see a strong U18 comp this year. Many teams still in the hunt for premiership glory.

Was that the Payneham game?
No. In our game a few weeks back an Ingle farm player got one red card and got sent off and didn't come back on. After getting sent off he had a little cry though. He was an ex falcon fella aswell who got weeded out of our club a few years back. He has a huge history of stirring the pot a little too far.

No it wasn't. If you read what I said, an Ingle farm player for 1 red card, not 3.

You can't get 3 red cards in one game, you'd be sent off for the rest of the game
Plus, you certainly wouldn't get off. There's an automatic suspension (1 or 2 games??) is that right?
the same night you seen me down at thebbie there was a under 18s kid from ingle farm all 3 of them said he got 3 red cards the umpire also said that to me while sitting outside then when it was all said and done the kid was very happy with him self to have got of after getting 3 red cards and yes you can get unlimited amount of red cards
he recieved 2 red cards from the side lines yelling out abuse
Umpire stuffed this one up.
Blamed the wrong player for mouthing off and gave a 25 or 50 mtr penalty against him. Which ever one it is these days.
Player tried to plead his innocence but kept getting a mouthful from the umpy to shut up and things escalated verbally.
Eventually sent off yelling and screaming telling the ump he was a dope, which I'm using kind words.
Umpire was a dope and antagonised things but there was no excuse for the player continuing his antics off of the ground.
True story.
But hey,
It's never the umpires fault.
Bashing umpires again.....no surprises - lots of repeat offenders here.
One Red Card means you are off for the game - additional red cards can be "issued" for second or further offences, or if another umpire (boundary etc) OR an SAAFL official makes a report. So - unusual - but possible to get multiple red cards.
Regarding managing the behavior of under 18 teams - the buck stops with the coach - the well behaved teams also have their "angry boys" but the coach / club demands a level of discipline and behavior.
Witness the Smithfield situation - coach did nothing to prevent players and supporters approaching and abusing the umpires after a reasonably competitive game.
It's not an easy gig coaching boys turning into men and trying to manage the many issues they face during this part of their life - but one thing (which is scientifically proven - research Steve Biddulph) - is that they operate well within a structured environment.
Lets help the coaches do that - which is why the SANFL U/18's do not have the issue - it is a structured (and yes, well disciplined and elite) environment - but the principles still apply.

Re: Under 18 penalties.
Blackwhite it was the Ingle Farm game.
The lad didn't get 3 red cards.
Robb Stark said he did not me.
I know exactly what your talking about.
Player involved was A S.

Re: Under 18 penalties.
Please read the rules, A red card does not automatically repeat: Does not automatically mean you are sent off for the rest of the game

ten (10) minutes or greater up to the maximum of the remainder of such match as determined by the reporting field umpire. Re: Under 18 penalties.
i think another issue at present is the umpires showing a red card then come the end of the game or even at half time they down play that card to a yellow this happens not just in the 18s but also the As/Bs and Cs
you can always tell when a game is going to get out of control and its when the umpire fails to intervene in a situation and take control of the game
i know when i umpire any game if it be under 10s to under 18s when i blow my whistle play stops anything after that free kick is paid also if im the second umpire im watching around the ground and the stoppage play looking for the players interested in playing the man and not the ball

Re: Under 18 penalties.
The Salisbury and Ingle Farm boys will be feeling their penalties pretty hard, looks like they'll have the potential to cost each side a shot at finals action.

Yep the Ingle Farm season is all but shot now being a game outside the 5 and have PNU & TTG in the last two rounds. They would need to rely on either Gepps Cross or Broadview losing all their remaining games, but both sides have favourable draws culminating in playing each other in the last round.

Hopefully someone draws the Smithfield Coach's attention to these to assure him that the League wasn't singling him out, but instead is coming down on all incidents hardly (and good on them too)

At least they didn't take 6 points off their A Grade like they did Smiffies.

Absolutely, would've put the A & B grade into 4th position in both grades and a tough fight from there.
Agreed, as they should, stamp it out early and show it's not tolerated.jo172 wrote:coming down on all incidents hardly (and good on them too)

Yep. Top 5 is set in my opinion. Very strong top 5 with a few teams getting there act together in the last month or so.

Re: Under 18 penalties.
Have seen Golden Grove play the last two weeks and they have played inspired football in beating the No. 1 & 2 ranked teams.
Made PNU look very ordinary last week after PNU made a mess of TTG the week before. Then for Golden Grove to knock off TTG at TTG was very impressive after TTG got with in a point at 1/2 time before GG jumped out to a 4 goal lead just before 3/4 time then TTG pegged them back in the last 1/4 and reduced it to less than a goal with under a minute remaining.
Golden Grove could be the upset special in this grade if they are on song. Still a long way to go but should be an interesting finals series this year in the U18 Red

And the Farm boys knocked GG off a couple of weeks back.
I reckon Broadies are the best team at full strength in the comp.

Both times we have played Broadies this year they have been stronger than there ladder position suggest. Any team can beat anyone on there day, no doubt about it.
