Would like to say a special thanks to Steve Gannell too. Our young ruckman Josh was thrown to the wolves in round 2 when our premiership ruckman Brad Shneider broke his leg. In round 4 it was only his 3rd game as a ruckman and I had a froffie after the game with the big fella and arguably the best ruckman in the comp and he was amazed that Josh was so young in ruck terms. On Saturday they again went toe to toe and it was a great learning curve again for Josh. Gannell at times willed him to contests and helped with his development more than I could ever teach him from the sidelines. Cheers big fella my respect for you as a person is enormous. You could have let him win a couple but, lol.

Another really sound performance by BOS on the weekend down at Rosewater. A little undermanned but a real team effort and contribution from all 21 who played.
Controlled the first half, challenged at 3qtr time when Rosewater had closed the gap to 10 points and then got it to 4 points early in the last but the lads held their nerve, settled and kicked away. A young group really developing after a few years of playing together.
This is the most even performing A grade squad we've had at BOS in our 9 years in SAAFL. No big names but plenty of hard working talent to keep the opposition on their toes.
Really looking forward to the last 5 weeks of the minor round.

As for our B grade, if they could just get a settled 12-14 of the 21 to play every week they too would be performing well. 57 players have gone through the B's this year compared to 34 through the A's

A fit and motivated Brad Schneider is an exceedingly good player. Was BOG in our GF win in 2012 and probably bested D7 medallist Clint Dow who now rucks for TTG in Div 1.

As for our B grade, if they could just get a settled 12-14 of the 21 to play every week they too would be performing well. 57 players have gone through the B's this year compared to 34 through the A's

Your B grade is much improved from previous seasons I have seen them play, far more competitive for longer and the margins have improved considerably.

Gannell is one of the best ruckman I have seen in a long time, especially in these grades.

Last years D7 medalist, runner up D6 in 2011 and polled well in 2012.

It's not so much his tap work that makes him such a good ruckman - although he is a very good tap ruckman - it's his ability to get around the ground, read the play and get to contests and also be able to drift into holes and pick off opposition attacks. His ability to have clean hands below his knees and use the ball efficiently is something a lot of other big men often struggle with.

Often beaten in the centre early, but he has an incredible work rate, and by the last quarter more often than not finds himself getting over the top of other ruckmen who have tired.

Does have a retarded kicking action though

Oh and he is a humble man and all round good guy, which makes him such a likeable character... for a ranga

Everything you say is right PG. Stevie G is a great bloke. He is struggling a tad around the ground especially late in the game, hence his spell late in the 3rd quarter. Winter does that but, plus he's not no pup anymore. My love for him is ability to work with young rucks from opposition teams. He clearly rates his craft and is prepared to help young kids develop. I'm sure IF will embrace that in years to come.

As for marbles, go back to your super league comments, you clearly have no friggin' idea about what REAL clubs are trying to do.

Won the div 6 medal last year and got injured in round 11 and didnt play until the prelim.. Scary to think what he would have won it by with a full season

We actually had this chat on the way home from Ingle Farm, about which player we most want from other clubs after discussing George Long.

First was Gannell, second was Schar, but the vote was split.

didn't have any impact on Saturday, nor did the other big guy number 16 i think he was. Only 1 game i know but given their respective size they should dominate if used well.

In the topic of who would you take from another club, a dominant ruckman would have to be top of the list at this level, a good ruckman will take you further than any other position IMO
