Re: SAAFL division 6 2014
On a serious note, I think volunteers can still be paid, but the rates that some B grade umpires is getting paid is extending beyond volunteering.
I stepped in once to fill in for a B grade umpire that didn't show & I would've considered myself paid for my time with what I received.
However I'm not completely against club umpires getting paid. Theoretically the payment, should intern mean some sort of system of basic quality control (yes I know this isn't always the case).
The guy that would volunteer to umpire would theoretically be a die hard club person & theoretically more inclined to be bias. I've seen some very dedicated club people do tremendous things for the club (at different clubs), but I wouldn't trust them to be in charge of a whistle

the umpire still needs to buy boots or shoes pay for petrol and food etc so the reward for giving up his or her time to umpire should be rewarded not everyone is rich and can give up there time for free
also robb_stark would slot in nice into that div 6 line up you picked mbk

At $100 for two hours work, I wouldn't call it volunteering.
Though I wouldn't call it work either. At work I don't get abuse yelled at me while I do my job

if you actually start with this as a base then you would never be shocked or surprised at them and i would suspect there is no need to abuse anyone because you already knew they would be crap..weird sort of logic but it works..
Tongue firmly in cheek LOL. I find it amusing the sledging and one eyed thought processes that are gvien from the side, then you look across and see a chick with a front and back arse biting into a pie with a can of beer in her other hand in between sprays, I love umpiring!

Mate, I call it constructive criticism and I'm grateful when supporters feel the need offer their advice, I'm sure they mean well.

Re: SAAFL division 6 2014
Umpires getting too much air time here. Its div 6R, no matter what any of you say, they are volunteers. Just like we play in the 'Amateur' League. Move on and let them do there job and if you dont like the level of umpiring at div 6R, then get a kick and play div 6, but I think you'll find they dont improve all that much.. Having said that I am probably the worst culprit for it, so its a real case of do as I say, not as I do..
Congrats Carey, here's hoping she gets her mothers looks! Ha

Would anyone care to predict the ladder at the end of round 18?
Blackfriars
Ingle Farm
Rosewater
West Croydon
Fitzroy
Lockleys
Central United
Mawson Lakes
Mitchell Park
Angle Vale
That would be awesome. Just humming along nicely but still plenty of games to throw the whole ladder around.
