ALthough by definition, everyone you play is a rival so what's the answer?

I guess there is no right or wrong answer, everyone will always have their own thoughts on the subject.

Exactly my point....I agree.....too many variables amongst too many clubs.....

Agree with the both. Seems as if Kenilworth is putting themselves before the day (i.e the March etc.)

I know Salisbury North sought the blessing of the local RSL to have the C Grade play before midday. Approval was given.

I don't mind this approach.
Politicians kissing babies for good luck,
TV preachers sell salvation for a buck.
You don't need no golden cross to tell you wrong from right,
The world's worst murderers were those who saw the light.

I know some clubs that will go together to the local dawn service and then go off to play their game. Can't get better comradery and inspiration then that.

Not saying your opinion is wrong Pag, but here is another pov that I'm ok with.

I went to the club forum last month and from memory Mr. Kernahan said he had consulted the RSL and they presented no objection to games commencing before noon. An extract from the document e-mailed out reads....
2014 Club Forum document wrote:ANZAC Day
Check with local RSL if they are participating ie Presenting medals
No recognised Etiquette outside of what formal activities the RSL undertake
RSL prefers as many people on the whole celebrate ANZAC Day
Oakbank Races
Two races run before 12

The Oakbank races given as an example and the gist of it being the more people that observe and recognise ANZAC day and all it represents, the better.

On an side note, I thought we commemorate on this day, not celebrate on it, I may be splitting hairs.

We've worked very closely with the Salisbury RSL when we've hosted a game in the past, and I'm sure if we asked if we could start before 12, they may say yes, I'm not sure, but surely we can all go one morning without footy for the sake of something a tad more important?

Hey guys, Anzac Day falls on a Saturday or Sunday twice every 7 years on average (as it will next year) and winter sport across all codes will be played morning, noon and night like it does every Saturday or Sunday so don't get too carried away with this before Midday stuff just because Anzac Day falls on a weekday. There is a law that prevents paid entertainment occurring before midday on Anzac Day but only if that event involves any form of pre-event ticket sales, hence why SANFL and AFL will not play before midday including any curtain raisers. But if junior basketball, netball or hockey games are played at stadiums that require paid entry that is OK because it's only pay as you enter rather than being able to buying a ticket in advance. You will find that the RSL fully endorses junior sport being played on Anzac Day morning because they believe that going to war was to protect the freedom of our nations children and grand-children.

I will be very defensive of my footy club about this opinion.

I am certain that any Amateur League football club would go down the right avenue of hosting games before 12 on this day and it's ridiculous that you pin point just this game when in fact there are others that start before 12 and some @ an earlier time.

Australian rules is Australian as obvious as it sounds. An Australian Club would never put them selves in front of the Anzacs to benefit them selves and even if they did I would suggest the other club who has taken part in the process would not accept it if it was not approved.

Jesus this has pissed me off especially knowing my own Grand Father has gone to War and his own Sons have no issue in helping out the footy club before 12.

Views on this subject as stated are wide and varied.....I'm not convinced its a matter of going without or otherwise. I'm sure no one undervalues the significance or importance of Anzac Day when we commemorate the appalling loss of a generation of our young men and women a century ago.

Their devotion to duty was to uphold a way of life and the freedoms that we exercise each day.. one of which is the freedom to make choices.......As an ex vet I pay due homage on Anzac Day, share a lager after the dawn service, and have no problems if I drive past an oval and see young Australians playing a game of football no matter the time.

Respect is something you offer as an individual. So if people feel it is disrespectful they free to choose to do or not to do.

Why couldnt clubs just organise the C grade games to be played after the A grade as twilight matches? I'm sure the lights would be good enough for a last quarter.

Not all clubs have decent lighting for twilight games.

READ THIS VERY CAREFULLY - the State office of the RSL have advised the SAAFL they WANT as many people celebrating ANZAC Day on ANZAC Day as possible and have no objections to matches being played before 12 noon.

I think it's fantastic how clubs and local RSLs have been able to work together to make these games happen
Great for the whole community as well
