Game Of Thrones Discussion (TV Spoilers, NO BOOK SPOILERS)

Postby bennymacca » Tue Apr 15, 2014 10:01 am

I thought I would start a new thread about game of thrones that allowed us to talk about the TV show without spoiling it for people in the general TV thread.

Just to be clear THERE WILL BE TV SHOW SPOILERS IN THIS THREAD.

also to be equally clear.

IF YOU HAVE READ THE BOOKS, GOOD FOR YOU. YOU ARE SMARTER THAN ME. BUT IF YOU SPOIL THE SHOW FOR ME, I WILL KILL YOUR FAMILY.

Im not even joking. I will behead your father, stab your pregnant wife at your wedding, I might even poison you with a huge weird looking pie.

Ok, now that we have got that out of the way, discuss...

just remember, there will be spoilers. final warning.

so i guess the big question from last night is, who killed joffrey!

firstly, I have never been so happy to see a child die in a pool of his own blood and vomit!

My first guess is Margeries mother, whoever her name is. She said something along the lines of "who would be so rude as to kill someone at their own wedding" etc. She also had an inordinate amount of screen time compared to recent episodes that featured her.

The fool guy also knows whats going on. He knew that he had to go and grab Sansa straight away as shit was about to go down. Margarie's mother also had a soft spot for Sansa and hated how she was treated, and would have wanted to make sure she was safe.

It all makes sense, but that doesnt mean thats how it happened!
Other suspects are Sansa herself and Oberyn or whatever his name is, the assassin dude, but there was no real hint in the episode that it was him.

if it was the new guy, why would the fool guy make sure sansa was safe? unless the fool guy just took it upon himself?

makes much more sense that it was margerie's mother because she liked Sansa

I'll have to tread carefully in this thread, because I read the books after the Red Wedding pissed me off so much.

I love the show, always have, but finding it a little more difficult to get into this time because I know most of whats going to happen .. Thankfully the writers make a few subtle changes but in the main keep it very close to what's contained in the books.

Unless I missed something in the book (or my memory is ****** - Highly possible), last nights episode differed a bit with one major change that will affect characters further down the track.

Still, they did the episode fairly well last night, littering it with clues as to who the killer(s) could be whilst also throwing several other players into the mix.

They don't kill Robb's wife in the book.

The Red Wedding? Robb's wife wasn't there, and in the book his wife is a different character to the one in the show. IIRC everything else seemed pretty much the same.

Who killed Joffrey? Watch the episode again. The fool whisks Sansa away. What did he give her in the previous episode? Look closer at the final scene and the role of that gift.

well the mrs watched it for the first time last night, so i watched it again trying to get some clues as to who did it, and you are right, im sure littlefinger is behind it somehow, as you could see he had a sense of foreboding in his face every time they showed him on screen, like he knew what was about to happen. this was done very cleverly, most of the time he was not the subject of the shot, but was quite often in the foreground or background, and was markedly different in his expressions from everyone else around him.

A theory I got told last night was that Cersei killed Joffrey, to thwart Margaery from becoming Queen. I know she's a control freak, but it seems to be a massive stretch to suggest she'd kill her own son.

the key question is who is now in power. is it joffrey's little brother, in which case she would be queen regent again? that would then make cersei the prime suspect, as she has now gotten rid of both tyrrian and joffrey, the two greatest threats to her power.

She has power until Tommen marries.

But she was the only one that unconditionally loved Joffrey.
