Rnd 3 - Eagles v Port @ Maughan Thiem Hyundai Oval (Mon 21/4

Post by Big Phil »

The Eagles have started the season 2-0 and just got over the line last Friday night against the Bloods while the Magpies had a walk in the park with a record breaking win against the Tigers...

This game should be an interesting one and will be interesting to see the selected sides for both clubs...

Presumably Templeton will be out with injury and Ainger will be back. I'd keep Fitzgerald in the side and play him at half back. I reckon he could go alright in the back lines this year - he looks pretty quick and agile and did a few strong spoils around the ground. May be an easier transition to league footy in the back lines as opposed to the forward lines and the Eagles are in desperate need of some talls in defence.

Hopefully Paul Stewart gets a call up to the Power.

Seeing the Eagles aernt the bays and play a fast running style of game I hope Port don't kill the Eagles !!
Talking to a norwood fan during the week the way to beat port is to run them off their feet like norwood did !!

Very important the Ainger gets up for this one. We can't expect McGregor to kick 4+ goals for the third week straight and presumably the small port defenders will be better than the people matched to him in recent weeks (notwithstanding the fact he has been outstanding). Wundke has been disappointing in his two games I have thought so we need another avenue. Hence the importance of Ainger.

With our best side on the park I think we can beat them but at the moment we have too many injuries/suspensions (latest being Templeton out for 1-12 weeks) to take us over the line. So Port by 6 goals.

I think our physicality was more of a factor. Several of the Port players didnt like the constant pressure and tackling. Think the key to beating them is getting constant numbers around the ball and not giving them any space to work with.

No way you could say that Norwood run us off our feet, we won the last qtr and kicked 3 out of bounds from set shot. Jim completely agree with what you said. Norwood had numbers around the ball all day and put the pressure on the ball carrier, resulting in us turning it over.

Maughan Thiem Hyundai giving away an i20 if they get 8,000 to the game on Monday.

Now that would be a real Easter miracle.

The Maughan Thiem Spectator Challenge

The Eagles are excited to announce a special promotion for our round 3 Blockbuster Easter Monday home game against Port Adelaide.
The highest attendance ever at Woodville oval was just over 11,000 in 1986, in the Warriors pursuit for the finals. That match was against Port…

Now Woodville Oval is known as Maughan Thiem Hyundai Oval.

If a crowd of 8,000 spectators attends the Easter Monday match, our good friends at Maughan Thiem Hyundai will give away a car on the day to one lucky spectator!
To enter the draw, simply fill in the entry form at the gate, it’s that easy!

they might be, but it's good to see someone in the SANFL is doing something about attracting supporters to the game.

Agree any promotion is good but a more realistic figure might attract more people

6,000 would have been probably been better - I'd say 4,000 will be the most likely crowd figure for this match.

8,000 will never happen, especially when the 1991 onwards record at Woodville is 7,183; Glenelg have only had two above 8,000 in that time; Elizabeth and Noarlunga one; while Prospect, Richmond and naturally Unley have had none
