U cant be serious, Twedders along with Chad Cornes have to been 2 of the most arrogant players in the AFL, after every goal they carry on like they have just kicked the winning goal in the Grand Final!! get over yourselves, fair enough celebrate a great goal or a match winning goal, but to carry on and fists and all every single time, please! Twedders plays one ok game so far this season and everyone says hes back, cmon get over yourselves!

I second that.

Also, with Tredrea's struggles, why can't he get pumped up about kicking a goal.

4 times All Australian, sorry i think hes entitled to be classed as a champion. I realise you're not a fan of Tredrea TM80 but he is one of the best forwards of the modern era whether you like it or not.

S Silvagni, possibly the most overrated footballer of all time.

That's harsh Tassie ..... How many captains of their club and multiple all-Australians AREN'T champions. Geez, if fully fit he'd probably be SA's State of Origin captain?

You've mentioned the elite of the elite as comparisons yet, to me, those guys need to have another label on top of 'champion', ie 'legend of the game'.

But, if your definition of 'champion' means you have to be as good as B Robran or R Barassi then, no, Tredrea doesn't qualify along with 99% of those that have ever played VFL/AFL/SANFL.

Besides that, you are sort of encouraging the guy who started the thread and I'd be happy if he never posts again ....

GWW great modern forward??? he's not even in your clubs top 3 modern forwards IMHO (unless you refer to modern era from 2000 onwards) - Modern era 1980 +

In no particular order Evans, Granger and Hodges are better than Tredrea - certainly as an opposition those three held more fear for me than Tredrea ever has

Not even in the top dozen great modern forwards once again in no particular order Lockett, Brereton, Lyon, Quinlen, Lowe, Ablett, Dunstall, Kernahan (more AA guerseys and premiership wins a captain than Tredrea based on your criteria), Salmon, Modra, Brown, Hall, Lloyd + the three from your club

Since 2000 he's been the best SA forward, granted, but in the parthenon of great forward he ranks behind plenty primarily becasue of his kicking accuracy and ability to consistantly take pack marks and or lead like the others listed above. Some like Modra he is a better contested pack mark but not as good aerially or on the lead, - I'm talking about the overall package as a forward...

His accuracy has improved but still not as good as a great/champion forward.

As I said he is good but IMHO he is not a great forward and he certainly ain't no champion....

C'mon Tassie ...

Hodges - 30 AFL games (guessing) of which only half were any good, no AA
Evans & Granger  - great players but let's be honest they left the VFL to come over here and neither made it to captain
v
Tredrea 200 AFL games, AFL premiership captain, 4 time AA
?????

Brereton, Lyon, Quinlen, Lowe, Ablett, Dunstall, Kernahan, Salmon, Modra, Brown, Hall, Lloyd - all champions but is there a quota? Add in Carey and Lockett that's 14 and while he may not make the top 10 of that list he could slot in amongst Modra, Loewe, Hall IMO.

Especially if you are picking on his kicking for goal - Loewe not exactly the greatest exponent of that skill we have ever seen. You also should factor in attitude, contribution as captain, contribution to the club, role model, etc ....

I am talking about Tredrea at his peak mind you

Your anti Tredrea bias is showing through Tassie. Saying that those 3 (all great players) are better than Tredrea is just plain silly, almost nonsensical, given his achievements in the AFL, which we all acknowledge is the premier league in the nation. Throughout the period 2001 to 2004 he was consistently kicking bags of goals from CHF, many games of which i attended, and i could see with my own eyes how good he was. His form against quality opponents in some matches was simply outstanding. How you could say Granger was a better footballer (yes Granger was more intimidating but certainly not a better footballer) is just totally beyond me.

I dont think theres any text book definition for "Modern". To me modern can be 10 years it can be 20 or 25, depending on what context is being used. In the last 10 years, Tredrea is certainly up there with the elite forwards of the competition. Jonathon Brown is a champion as well, but his career will always have an * next to it given that the amount of games hes missed with injury and suspension. And does it necessarily exclude Tredrea as being a champion, just because the players you listed happen to be champions as well. Is Mats Wilander not a champion because Borg, McEnroe, Hoad, Laver, Edberg and Rosewall were as well? Is there an automatic cut off limit, that once theres 7 or 8 "champions" in a sport, theres no room for anyone else?

My final comment on the matter is that the greatest CHF of the modern era, Wayne Carey, described Tredders in the press earlier in the week as a "champion", thats good enough for me!

Gentlemen I respect your views and yes we can debate all night about the various components of what makes a great forward, what defines good, great and champion, and what is the "modern era" and I will happily admit that Tredrea is a bloody good footballer and some parts of his game are better than that repective part of some of the players I mentioned above. However as I said I'm talking about the total package of a forward.

In a nutshell whilst I'll freely admit he is good player and I was only ever a hack and a bad hack at that, I don't consider him to be great player/forward especially in my viewing experience. Other may and thats their/your perogative...

FWIW my arguement on great forwards is immediatly flawed when I neglect Carey isn't it!!!!!

All players start their careers seeking to replicate the achievements of that champion CHF Allan Bartlett, but sadly not many of them do ;)

Dinglinga, Never said Twedders hasnt achieved anything..and I have- that was a pretty amazing conclusion to draw by my comment. Twedders has been a decent AFL footballer and a premiership player- so has Aaron Keating BTW- and all the while has been a very average shot on goal- and taking the gas on occassions IMO.

Like your current AFL coach I admire Bobby for his work ethic and determination but not even I would start to compare Bartlett with Tredrea, if you want to mention them in the same sentance and make comparisons you go ahead.....

Agree on Tredrea, I'd say he's a champion .. Have to vehemently disagree with the call on SOS though (I think Tredrea actually mentioned him the other day when asked about toughest opponent)
