Re: Riverland Football Chatter
AT, I don't care, but all I can say is "sucked in".
Do you know who you've got?
BD: not sure why Mick's come back. Didn't really get to talk to him about it last night. I don't think he'll play every game though.

Re: Riverland Football Chatter
Part of some exchange I think.
I know we had some umpires from out of the region earlier in the season.
Personally I think they should concentrate on learning how to umpire rather than planning trips away!
DW - Still a big 'in' though.

Re: Riverland Football Chatter
This is a frank and open exchange isn't it BD
If you've got Chris Cooke at Ironbank, I think you'll be reasonably happy. Does a good job.
Todd Charlton goes okay too actually.
I think the 'younger' breed among the umps are actually quite okay.

Re: Riverland Football Chatter
I reckon they've got Steven Scott.
He's not too bad.
You're right though DW, our young ones aren't too bad.
I think Todd is the best going around.

no brain surgery here, Todd calls it as he sees it and doesnt revel in the momment and thrive on the attention of supporters like some of our "veteran" umps.

Re: Riverland Football Chatter
Its hard to say.
I think some of the Independent sides on their own could quite easily take it up to some of the B grade sides.
If we were full strength it would be a pretty good match I'd reckon.

Re: Riverland Football Chatter
Has Independents dropped away that much.
In the 80's Brown's Well used to beat Loxton in trial matches but back then also used to give Pinnaroo a touch up as well.
I would have thought the result of last Saturday's match would indicate that Independents are up there with Mid Murray with the good sides able to match up evenly with most B grade sides.

Re: Riverland Football Chatter
supa its a very tired old arguement and my gut feel is the strong clubs Cobby, Moorook etc would account for bottom B grade teams but struggle with the top couple.

Re: Riverland Football Chatter
It'd be a battle against the top B grade sides for the Indys top sides.
A couple of years ago Moorook pumped Loxton in the B Grade - they played finals that year.
However, I don't think I agree with the recent quote from a BMFC B grader who claimed Moorook would get pumped by the Roos. I think it would be closer than that.
But really, who cares. You play where you do because you're happy there, and who really cares if you'd knock off a B grade side. All that matters is who you knock off in your respective comp.

Re: Riverland Football Chatter
Thanks Maggie - I'm sure most were aware of who I am.
Brown's Well were unlucky yesterday. Copped several injuries that really hurt their depth. The loss of Russ Charles, who broke his own nose with his own knee (!!!!!), really hurt them. I'm sure a full strength Bombers unit wouldn't have allowed us to beat them by that much.

Brown's Well without Russ Charles a lot like Wunkar without Shane Schulz.

Re: Riverland Football Chatter
Heard a story from a Riverland game this weekend about an umpire being manhandled by a player.
No other details, anyone know anything.

[b]I agree completely with your last comment[b]. The quote made by the BMFC B grader recently was also backed up by a former Independent coach (not long out of it) and the b grader who made the comment has played a few years in each league. It is not the top players where the different lies but with the last 5 - 10 selection each week. eg a recent Independent medalist could not even break in to the BMFC A grade last season and found the going tough in the B grade comp.

Re: Riverland Football Chatter
Supa - young Leon Wanganeen from Lyrup was reported for making contact with and abusing an umpire.
If found guilty can expect to receive a lot of matches.
I coached him last year and he is a volatile little ****.
Great skills, but really poor attitude....doesn't like it when things don't go his way.
I dropped him for a game because of attitude and he cracked the shits and threatened to smash my car and the A grade coach's.
The problem is, he is a really good kid when he is settled down and acting normally. Too many mates that act tough around him though.
East Murray player suspended for 2 weeks on racial vilification as well.
