I thought North erred at the selection table. Would have been a chance if they played Archer....
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Transport Adelaide wishes to advise that the Karma Bus, which journeyed from Prospect Oval to Richmond Oval a week ago, has now made the return journey to Prospect Oval, where it will stay until next season.

have to say I'm going to miss that old scoreboard
x 2. Nothing says 'Footy Park' to me like that very 1970s scoreboard, that for at least the first decade or so was the only scoreboard at the ground. I've spent what would add up to days of my life, nervously glancing at it. Have to say, dedja, that I love the fact that they didn't even fix up the old dots— that's just my perversity, though. The first of them probably went bung in 1987!

Congrats to NFC the first and hopefully not the last time they win back-to-back premierships in my lifetime. Not even the likes of John Olsen being up there on the podium too could ruin the moment.

Any talk on who the new coach might be? I'd love to see Garry McIntosh get another shot after his success with PNU.

Agree with Jim05 earlier in the thread, North's potential big trump was it's taller forwards against Norwood's undersized defence, so couldn't understand why Johnston was used the way he was, especially given the wind was insignificant.

I know where you're coming from but I can't agree. Whenever a team loses it's easy to conclude 'the losing coach got out-coached'; but sometimes he simply took his best shot, and it didn't work out on the park. I think that Francou had thought long & hard about Norwood's game-plan and how to counteract it. He'd realised that you need to hit your targets every time or they'll kill you on the turnover, and so he'd put his elite kicker (Johnston) in the 'spare man back/ quarterback' role. Of course you pay a price of him not being a marking KPP forward, but (as we found out) if you never get it out of defence your forwards are of pretty limited use anyway. He'd also decided that you can't just chip your way out of the Norwood zone because it rolls back behind the ball carrier; you have to run it past them with overlap handball and aggressive tackle-breaking gut-running, and/or kick long to players on the break (Johnston's other benefit to them— being a very long kick as well as an accurate one).

The problem was ultimately not the plan but the cattle. North gave it a go to hit precise targets and run it through the zone, but they missed too many targets (mostly not Johnston's fault) and Norwood's setup was too professional and pressure too intense, so the chains of handballs broke down. If he'd had 21 players of the quality of Johnston, Ryswyk and Miles (and a couple of others who starred in defence) then the plan might have worked. It was also a taxing game plan, and by the end of the 3rd quarter it was obvious that they were rooted. There had been a quarter between goals (by anyone) after North kicked the only goal of the 3rd quarter only a few minutes in; the longer the game went goal-less the more important the next goal was. As it turned out, the Jefferies-to-Warren soccer in the goalsquare goal that broke the drought about 3 minutes into the last, was the result of a disposal and ball-receiver error committed by some very tired North defenders. Ultimately it was pretty simple: Norwood had too many good players, plus in the 4th quarter especially, its players were fresher than North's players.

As for the North forward line, the problem was not that the ball got bombed in there with no-one to mark it. The problem was that it didn't get up there. When they got a run-on in the 3rd quarter (and of course the last 2 minutes of the 2nd quarter), it was obvious that with Stewart, Langford and Gordon plus pinch-hitters including Johnston pushing up, they had enough marking power inside 50 to hurt Norwood. The ABC commentary dude was right when he said that you'll virtually never win a game of footy with 33 inside 50s.

At a place with a creek and has a word that rhymes with Foghorn?

Looking at just playing next year i believe, Not coaching.
Yep, would be great to see him re-unite with his brother for another premiership back at the 'Creek' as he did in 2011.

On a side note, there would've been 1 more in the crowd yesterday if i could've found a carpark within 5 miles of the ground. Gave up after 1/2 an hour looking and went elsewhere to watch it on telly.
God only knows how bad its going to be next year at Adelaide oval.

It was never in doubt, even though North closed the margin.
Norwood play like a well-oiled machine and were brilliant as a team.
McGuiness was outstanding, as was Zorzi.
I thought if North were to win, it was Campbell that needed to do the damage and when he got running, North looked good. However, there was too much congestion for him to do too much damage throughout the game.
Great crowd. I'm sure it was a good atmosphere. I'm also sure some games in the years after 1999 matched it.

Now...how will Norwood supporters blame West and Collins for this low-scoring match? ;)

How?? Easy!! West were that shite that this finals season that if North could win by 56 last week, we would of won by over 100 if we played them!!

I think North had a clear advantage in the ruck and left Miles in the backlines for too long. Also Johnston needed to start forward and kick goals. Campbell played well.
