Obviously don't watch them too much bc. Freo are entertaining in my eyes. That short possession footy of Hawthorn is boring as bat shit though.

Add me to the list of people that obviously dont watch Floodmantle then
I would rather watch Hawthorns style of footy anyday compared to what Floodmantle at times dishes up

The at times Floodmantle style of footy is perhaps acceptable, if they are winning or you support them.
They do what they have to do very well
But for some of us it can be boring watching the style they play

I think within 2 seasons, Lyon will have got the most out of his demanding game style, and then I expect Freo will miss finals action

Spot on Mal.... good post!

it's ok to play attacking footy, but if you can't stop the other side from scoring its useless. just ask the bombers, hawks last year!!!

i love the way the swans go about it. The horse has a added a bit more of attacking style of the game, and wit our pressure game we are hard to beat.... never an easy game for anyone we play.

100+ tackles in the grand final last year, please tell me how that is boring? 2005, 06 and 2012 are some of the most exciting grand finals going around, not for the high volume of score but its a battle and i think people love to see that...

swans have played in 3 GF's, 2 flags and have only missed the finals once in 11 years... may not look good, but it bloody works...

Its not Fremantle's relentless tackling and pressure that's my issue , I actually enjoy that part of their game
Its the deliberate calculating flooding in the oppositions forward lines that gets boring

I will no doubt be watching this game where the Hawthorn midfield/defence will have to share the ball kicking slightly forward, slightly backwards and slightly sideways beacuse nearly all the players on the ground are in Hawthorns attacking zones
That to me does not equate to entertaining football , if I want to watch that , I can watch that in the NRL and EPL

Have you ever seen them live?? I think you would find it quiet intriguing in the way they do this!
And you have to be kidding me about freo missing finals action in the present years?

hawthorn are probably highest ranked side in uncontested footy!!!

Spot on Mal.

36 blokes sharing 50-60 metres of the field isn't doing much for footy. The 2011 GF was the most enjoyable to watch in the past 7 or 8 years IMO, even if the margin did blow out in the end (and I was barracking for the Pies  )
SAFC- 60 years...
StKFC- 58 years..

All teams occupy their defensive half with 17 players if they are given time to do it. It's not just a Freo trait.

Well said. Every real football person knows that Freo under Lyon are just so much better at that game than any other team. Good for the future of footy? I'm not sure Fremantle footy club gives a toss. Football always evolves, the Western Bulldogs were the first genuine flooders, then Craig tried it at the Cows. they both failed. I think Lyon might just succeed. But whether he wins or loses, I expect he'll modify & continue to refine his game-plan so his team remains at the top of the table. He is a brilliant coach IMHO.

Rumours of Johnson being a late withdrawal are getting stronger..
Even Ross Lyon has gone from " he will play" to " I would be suprised if he does not come up"

I have listened and read all the fors and againsts all week and it is going to be a great game.
Was at the G last Friday night and thought at one point the ticker was going to give up.
I hope it can cope with another close contest as I am sure it is going to be..

Anyway.. Go you Hawks !!!!

As far as a pure footballing spectacle goes- it'll be mighty tough to beat 89 in my lifetime.
