It's not just the Crows but it is the trend across most clubs, this is a direct result of the trade process and format

Trades do not eventuate until day 4, this is because clubs put unrealistic expectations on the trade, use stalling tactics and do not work hard enough to reach an early win-win outcome

This than impacts on the smaller trades, clubs will not deal in the smaller trades until the big deals are out of the way, more time than none, clubs are left with no time to get some of the smaller deals over the line.

This year, both Pav and Judd could opt to trade clubs, these would be the two biggest deals in the game, based on history, these deals will not be completed until the last day, this could have the potential to block other smaller deals

I don't blame the clubs, I blame the process and format, and the process is in need an Urgent over haul, including the ability to trade future picks

There are plenty of ex SA boys coming out of contract in the next 2 years, Pav, Cooney, Hurn, Waters, Schammer, the list goes on

Syd

I still rekon that if a club wants a trade they will get it done and smaller trades have happened quickly before - Aka to Bulldogs last year in the first half an hour.

I dont blame clubs for trying to get the best deal for there clubs at all.

Hopefully we do get some players to come home - i am getting so frustrated that we seem to be inactive in the trade/ preseason draft periods.
It is what it is !!!

Of course clubs will hold out until the last minute to come to an agreement on a trade.

If Judd was to return to Melbourne, and lets say Collingwood offered them 2 players and draft picks, and on day one,in principal they come to an agreement. Many other Melbourne based clubs will get wind of it,try and outbid Collingwoods offer,in turn winning Judd's services*.

West Coast get more,Collingwood lose twice. They miss Judd, and two of their players find out the club see's them as expendable.

Nature of the trade beast.
If you want to go quickly, go alone.

If you want to go far, go together.

That happens a lot - a team focusses on a their main trade target, work on that all week, falls through at last minute and have no time to get to Plans B or C. IIRC the Damon White deal fell through because time ran out and it would happen all the time. I think trading of established players will reduce in future as teams focus more on draft picks. Stars like Judd excepted of course .....
In between signatures .....

Craig has said that he doesnt like trading. He has stated he will only trade a player if that player has specifically asked to be traded. Otherwise, he will stay out of trade week. He would rather develop his own players.

The players that were mentioned as 'trade bait' werent that crash hot either.

Skipworth? Kangaroos pulled out I think. Every club had their chance to draft him and noone did so the demand for him obviously wasnt there at all

Jericho? Just came off his worst season, didnt play a game and looked set to be delisted. Again, Noone would have wanted him

Meeson? Sure there would have been demand for him but why would you trade a first round draft pick whos only been at the club 2 years and came along in leaps and bounds last year? Craziness.

Roos were very keen on Skippy but ended up going for Edwards which in retrospect was the best decision, one of the leading contested marks in the comp
