Stewards abandoned the meeting at 11:40am (local time), which was 35 minutes before the scheduled start of the day’s racing.
Stewards had concern with three areas of the course that were considerably worse than the slow (7) rating while the inner road for support vehicles was unusable.
It would have been tough for the ambos, for sure.
8mm fell over Tuesday night at the track, the initial assessment suggested shifting the rail out, which they did after a quick trip to Gawler to pick up the relevant equipment.
Further inspections from other stewards and the jockeys pretty much surmised there were indeed areas where the track was considerably heavier than a Slow 7, within the space of three strides, which I think was the biggest concern given recent events.
Not a big worry for the Balak RC, they'll have an immaculate track come Cup Day on September 4, which won't have had a horse run on it for two months.
