Ha ha one game I was playing in a team mate picked up a decidedly smaller opposition player and buried him with a tackle flat on his back, taking the wind right out of him. The umpires whistle went, and the free was given , with the explanation of "Too rough". I wanted to crack up laughing, but the free was 15m out directly in front of goal!

Conspiracy, just ask REB

Don't need to ask anyone. It's that obvious. The AFL's sponsored Victorian team.

Hahahaha, I did a similar thing back in under 16s against Lockleys, at the time I was at fullback and I tackled a little tiny forward pocket front on when he took the footy, hit him pretty hard and made him earn his possession. Then the umpire blew the whistle, I though it was a ball up but much to my surprised it was a free kick about five metres out from goal! I asked the umpire what the free kick for for, he said for being too rough!!

Jonas one very disappointing.
Has been mentioned in some media outlets that he left the ground - which he most certainly did not.
They didn't seem to be too fussed on Footy Classified last night, which surprised me.
For mine it wasn't as bad as the Maxwell/McGinnity one of a few years back when Maxwell got 4 weeks initially (McGinnity suffered broken jaw) but was completely exonerated on appeal, although interpretations have probably tightened up since that incident in February 2009.

Guess which team people support.

If you really want to be taken seriously, maybe someone mention Steven May's reprimand.

On conspiricy theories though.. i've often wondered if teams sometimes deliberately take their foot off the gas in Friday night clashes to close the margin and make for an "exciting finish" despite controlled 75% of the game..

No one can tell me that there isn't a Victorian bias in the umpiring decisions these days. Always has been always will be aslong as the AFL is being run from Vic - too many vested interests and too much emphasis put on the $$$$$'s.

Hence why I cant listen to talk back radio. Some 5AA callers probably aren't fit to tie their shoelaces. Above post case in point.

Jonas rightfully got 3 IMO. Given what we have seen with the Geelong lad who is now a quadraplegic, and Simon White on the weekend fracturing a vertebrae- head high contact needs to be stamped out. The AFL is not removing the bump from the game- however players need to know how to execute it safely. The rule is simple, bump at your peril. Make appropriate contact and your fine, contact with the head and your goneski.

What I cant work out is how a bump with head high contact warrants 3, yet a deliberate elbow to the head warrants 2. Go figure.

Mckernan clearly didnt mean to elbow him n the head - whereas Jonas deliberately hit the lad high.

I agree all head high contact needs to be stamped out of the game. As a parent I believe the AFL are on the right track.

Teams don't do it, the umpires do it, because the AFL have punted on the result to be a certain margin. Then the AFL use this money to give to Sydney Swans. ;)

Erm what did he mean to do with that elbow sticking out, at head level as he went at the player...?

Just wondering...

Welcome and good luck.

One then would wonder why McKernan lifted his elbow to the same height as the blokes jaw if he "didnt mean to do it"?

I dont think Jonas' initial contact was head high, he simply hit Roberton hard and rocked the hippies head band enough to daze him.

I'm a parent too and they're cocking the game up.

Once again, welcome.
