The AFL have mooted an "indigenous only" TAC cup club forming next season and are contemplating the All Stars being sent to Ireland, being indigenous only.

I'm sure they wouldnt consider either of these if there wasn't great benefit involved, but it just seems to me that the best way to put the lid on racism, is to stop highlighting the differences in people that are essentially all Aussies. By all means celebrate all various cultures at appropriate times.

Hope I've chosen my words well enough, appreciate the sensitivity of the topic.

The problem is that people who are amongst the comfortable majority are starting up the bogus concept of reverse discrimination. I've been shot down on Facebook by bringing up the fact that indigenous Australians have a much higher illiteracy, infant mortality, unemployment and inceration rate than their fellow Australians. Is not being able to play in a football game a small price to pay for these small gestures. I was even told 'what does that have to do with it REB'.

Plenty.

Surely having a team that is for only indigenous players is discriminating against non-indigenous players? Or is discrimination acceptable if its against the “comfortable majority”?

That's a bit of a grey area I reckon Tassie. I think not being able to play in a football game or work out in a gym with women is not discrimination. I reckon not having the same opportunities to work , vote or live as long as the rest of us is.
If you feel discriminated against by the AFL's decision then I'd say it is not acceptable. But for me not being able to play in a footy game is not what I would term discrimination and I also think that none of the non-indigenous players would feel discriminated against.

All opinion only of course mate.

Equitable access to health services mainly. The indigenous population have much higher levels of infant mortality and a lower life expectancy. A lot of this is due to a lack of services in their communities. If you don't have the same access to services then I believe this is a form of discrimination (i.e. inequity), especially as our nation is moving ever closer to the 'user pays' model of the good old US of A.

It is a very grey area but would the AFL even suggest an all white team or tour of Ireland? If anyone even mentioned it in AFL house they would lose their job on the spot.

I know what you’re saying about some people do not having the same opportunities as the “comfortable majority” but there are also other that are given more opportunities and just don’t take advantage of it. You can’t help people if they don’t want to help themselves.
