Re: Marathon/Half Marathon Running
The Gold Coast half is a decent run - nice weather - the full gets a bit warm as it starts after the half...
Got to do a half marathon at Marathon RP tonight after work... damn wedding on the weekend so have had to pull the weekend run forward. This is when the training gets hard/annoying! Hopefully don't go ar$e up when it get dark.

Read this great quote on Cool runnings forum, harsh but true
"Do what needs to be done not what suits you. Your goals, therefore your sacrifices."

The Melbourne Marathon Festival runs in mid October. The half marathon there finishes in the MCG. That might be worth considering.
Hefty wrote:Did the GreenBelt half marathon about 3 years ago and was definitley a rewarding experience. Goal was to run the whole distance without walking/stopping which I did but wanted to crack the 2 hour mark but did it in 2hr6mins. But still very happy with the run.
Want to get back into another one but did my ACL last year and still waiting for op. Can still run on treadmill but if I run over a distance on the road my knee **** canes me!
Keen to do both of these too. May do Greenbelt this year.
Would be great to finish in the MCG, but I thought that was for the marathon only, or I may have misinterpreted it.

I am thinking my main goal this year might be the Yurrabella Trail 56km event in September, the week after the city to bay. Like Brocky said, bite of more than you can chew and chew like hell!

Did the Cleland trail run this morning, nice & refreshing in the rain.
Tough 24km course, especially the 2nd half mostly uphill.

Re: Marathon/Half Marathon Running
I was thinking about doing that but did another 16.5km course with a mate through Belair and Mt Lofty and then following Yurrebilla for a while...very very wet and slippery made some of the climbs quite difficult. I really had to think my way through some of them to get up through the mud and clay.
At Cleland did you hear about one of the competitors getting cut when a stick hit his face after falling? Ended up with 13 stitches apparently.

Re: Marathon/Half Marathon Running
Loved the rain after doing so much running in dry, warm conditions in the last few months the rain was lovely.
The lady at work who run it also, told me about that dude who got 15 stitches, was trying to dodge puddles and a branch was quite low and didn't see it and got cut badly.
On a wet or dry day you need to be 100% attentive on the trails as you can get some nasty injuries.
Next event will be the 10k at either Greenbelt or Barossa.

Re: Marathon/Half Marathon Running
that 20kms through Cleland turned into 21kms with 1km of climb...epic. Longest distance I have ever done and biggest climb by far. Got home at 4.30pm and was in bed fast asleep by 6.30!

Those nasty hills will do that
Keep doing the hills and you will get better mentally & physically at the running/walking them

Re: Marathon/Half Marathon Running
I encourage anyone in the Spencer Gulf tomorrow to participate in the Make-a-Wish foundation Napperby to Port Pirie Fun Run.
It's an 11km run that is mainly downhill and it supports a great cause.
Drago, close mate of former SA Footy raconteur Cheetah will be participating in the run and no doubt will finish amongst the front runners.

They are great training runs to get you ready for the actual day.
Meet new people, run at your own pace. Well worth doing.

A great day and a great crowd at the Make-A-Wish foundation Napperby to Port Pirie fun run this morning.
Really great to see so many people getting involved to help a great cause.
Banned SA footy member Cheetah's mate Drago completed the 11km run in a respectable 1 hour and 3 minutes and raised a lot of money to help the Make-A-Wish foundation.

Re: Marathon/Half Marathon Running
I've been working my distances back up after yet another calf tear... did 16km this evening (my PB for distance) and have been feeling really strong...
Bit the bullet and got myself measured up for a decent pair of running shoes. Have ordered a pair of Mizuno Wave Inspire 9s from the States...
Can't wait to get them...

I've been using the same shoe for the last 4 weeks. They are super light and very comfortable.
