Played it twice recently. Sensational condition. This months Golf Digest has a review of SA courses. It plays down Lady Bay as not everyone's cup of tea but rates Mt Compass as a gem getting better and better.

Don't know if this has been posted previously, but I found this site far and away the best for SA Golf Course reviews, descriptions, pictures etc.

http://www.sagolfadventure.com/

Basically, two blokes, avid but not amazing golfers, took on the task of playing every golf course in SA. And did it. Every course from Iron Knob to Kooyonga

starting to learn where to hit the ball to allow for the rolls to get some extra distance and not get stuck down below the pin

plus it was my first round with the srixons ad333

not a bad ball to be honest

This month's Digest has Mt Compass and Victor as two of the 10 most underrated courses in Australia.....

As we speak I'm sitting in my hotel room at Mission Hills, Shenzen, China. Playing 5 different courses over the next five days. Tomorrow, the Vijay. Faldo, Ozaki, Els and the Nicklaus World Cup course to finish. Will give you an update at the end of the week but everything I've seen so far leads me to believe this will be the best golfing week of my life.

I was so impressed with Mount Compass. Can be punishing if you don't get your ball right off the tee, but evens itself out with the bigger greens to attack the pins if you are in the right spots.

Went out in 57 (put 2 balls OOB) and come home in 46, and will be back there to try and lower that score now that I know what to expect from the course.

Had a hit on Sunday last week with a mate who doesn't play an awful lot, so went to North Haven.

Bloody hell, $17 for 9 holes around there.....bit rich.

I had 44 he had a 62. Hit them off the tee ok, 7,8,9 irons did as I wanted them too which helped me.
If you want to go quickly, go alone.

If you want to go far, go together.

What is embarassing about that score?
I shot 102 at the Pat on Saturday in the comp and was ok with it. It included 50 putts. Now that was embarassing

I play off 18 and still have the occasional blow out round to high 90/low 100 (usually bloody stroke  ) no need to be disappointed just need to find your level and be consistent.

I had a 111 a few weeks ago and was livid, so I went around again and had 102. My handicap is 27, so I wasn't too disappointed about that.

36 holes in a day was tough admittedly.

Playing lately I don't mind if I knock down 100-115 due to the amount I am getting out. While it is frustrating to hit these scores I don't mind too much as I can't get out as regularly as I would like.

If I am playing consistently and getting out to practice, I start getting annoyed at myself if I hit over 100. The main thing that I always try and keep as low as possible is my putting. I know I'm not going to make many one putts so I really try and make those 2nd putts as short as possible, unfortunately this doesn't always happen lol.

Mount Compass was my best putting display in a long time with only three 3 putts for the round. Really hope to build on that Friday at Willunga.

The short game is where low scores are won or lost. Bad day chipping or the putter is cold will wreck your scorecard.
