Re: SAAFL Division 8 2013
Draw for div 8 and 8r is now on sporting pulse. Only quickly looked at salisburys and I'm very surprised, it's nothing like last years set up as both our teams are separate on numerous occasions, that was the lure of this div. interesting draw!!

Just looked at ours.
According to the draft, round 5 the Cs and Ds play SMOSH but the Cs play at SMOSH and the Ds at NH, both look to be triple heades for the respective clubs. We don't play Districts/Ovingham away at all, got them at home twice in rounds 6 and 13. Everything else lines up fine.

I think it's just the way they have listed it.
IE: Round 1, Div 8
It lists Salisbury vs Smosh, but the venue is SMOSH.
Div 8R it lists Smosh vs Salisbury, at SMOSH.
So at quick glance it appears to be at different venues, but in fact they are both at SMOSH.
No idea why they would list Salisbury first in the Div 8 game!
Danny Southern telling Plugga he's fat, I'd like to see that!

Re: SAAFL Division 8 2013
Round 7 for example our C's play Modbury at Salisbury triple header with our a/b grades at 10;00 but our D's play 10:00 at Modbury as a triple header with their A/b grade. I can live with pt distr / ovingham seperate but everything else should be together

Re: SAAFL Division 8 2013
Ours looks OK at first look, we have to play Districts/Ovingham combination 3 times so we have 2 games where we are at different grounds including round 1. We play PAOC,UNI and North Haven 3 times each which will be tough. Pretty hard to schedule this fairly with 7 C and D grade sides and Districts and Ovingham sharing the next side so it is how it is. Ovingham is an interesting one, effectively they are an A grade side playing against 7 other D grade sides, not sure how they go or will go but could be a tough side to come up against.

Agreed. They should change it and hopefully they will.

Did note in Round 1 they have our D grade playing Ovingham at 2.15 and our C grade playing Port Districts at 12.15. Not sure why they have changed the times around.
Spewing cos' GG have the 10 year anniversary of A grade premiership up at the burra dome for the A grade game. Assumed the D grade would be at 12.15 then slide up to GG for some frothies and reminiscing of past glories.......there goes that idea!!!

the last time that ovingham played port they beat them convincingly both times but that was two years ago
since then port have been able to rebuild and ovies fell alot behind
even tho they are effectively an A GRADE side they would struggle in the last 12months to have any players make any of the top c grade sides
they are a social group who even tho give everything they have still struggle to fill a side every week because of the commitments
my opion would be to have the port side in the Agrade and Ovies in the B Grade

Not saying that it is not where they should be, just thought this comp was always for c and d grade sides. Think that they fall short by one D grade side. If there was say unley like they were thinking they would have been there instead. No real big deal really most D grade sides are there for a bit of fun, still keen to win.

Re: SAAFL Division 8 2013
Right o, I grilled the GM tonight on how & why this is working and here's the
thing.
In 2012 there were 9 C & D grade teams in Div 8. In 2013 there are 7 teams
due to Gepps Cross and Mitcham dropping their D grades.
You can not perfectly pair an 8 team comp with the 10 team comps that your
A grades are in. Eventually the 8 team comp is going to play the 1st and
2nd teams you played 1st for a 2nd time before your A grade has played all
9 teams once so that means the whole H/A & A/H thing gets thrown out the
window at some point.
I hear if Port District did not come to the party and come into the Div 8 comp - which they didn't have to, the alternative was for the league to put
more C grade teams like it was a few years ago with C1, 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6 but
that would mean splitting more regularly. From what I understand by simply
putting Districts and Ovingham in it means a little inconvenience but it's
pretty much business as usual.
It's not over yet though, there is 1 club in C3 and 1 club in C4 that have
told The League there is high liklihood they may not fill their C grade
team so be careful because chances are Ovingham might end up in the
C grade comp and then you'll have a bye in the 8 Reserves.
So what's worse?, playing somewhere else in a triple header a couple of times a season OR 2 or in some cases 3 byes.
It was quite an enlightening phone call so my advice is be careful what
you wish for.

Re: SAAFL Division 8 2013
I think this way our c grade gets ten home games this season and our D grade gets eight, only because we get ovingham away twice and once at home, haven't looked all that deep but I think it went this way. Not the end of the world and at least there is so far no byes. I think that it has worked out as best it could considering, if the sides in the c1 and C4 pull out the bye could really be a disadvantage in the div 8r comp, some sides may not play as many games as others and get the points needed to get to finals but what can you do.

Re: SAAFL Division 8 2013
they could always go the way they do in the juniors
each club would get their list of 25 to players for A GRADE,the same for B GRADE and then anyone not listed moved to the next closest club, their for getting rid of the c and d grade squads all together
not ideal but at least the clubs all get a chance to survive
just one from out side the square
man of been up here to long, bloody heat must of got to me ,now theirs a cyclone just off the coast

I hope numbers improve for Ovi's, they had about 7 out there when I was going for a ride last night, I'm hoping it was just a bad night for numbers out there.

They've taken the fixture off sporting pulse as well for Div 8/8R.....doesn't look promising!

Good to hear mate, I rode past about 7:15 and it didn't look like there were too many actually on the track.
