It would have had to have fallen on this side of the Great Dividing Range, yes?

most hasn't, unfortunately, hopefully the storm cell might dump* some of its load on this side.

How ambitious would it be to build a tunnel from the side of the GDR that always gets flooded to the Murray/Darling catchment area? I have no idea, (please don't quote that) but I have seen wonders of engineering here in Japan, if I can I'll dig up some figures on how long some of their tunnels are. I think the Great Tunnel Irrigation Scheme would need a massive pump also.
The benefits would be enormous though, eh? The place that has too much water relieves itself by pumping it to a system that doesn't have enough. Farms, orchards, livestock and city reservoirs would all get replenished during the season they need it most, and the old Murray gets a good wash for health's sake.
Too ambitious, or is the time ripe?

great idea! then the Qld govt. will build MORE Cubbie Stations. If you want to see how bad things are & how selfish & ignorant some of those Queenslanders are, get yourself a copy of Two Men in a Tinnie....or borrow mine. Selfish pricks. Look at Google Earth, The Culgoa as it approaches Cubbie is wide & high, straight after, it is half the flow.
there you go, I edited it for you.

Qld have long stated they won't share water. What falls in Qld belongs to Qld and we'll do what we want with it.

We shouldn't be farming cotton or rice in Australia, but we do.

in the DVD, the Mayor of one of the towns near Cubbie says, whilst sitting on his jet ski, "If we don't use the water, it's just gonna go straight past the people downstream", what ignorance.

Off the topic here but -
the partial comment was - "If you want to see how bad things are & how selfish those Queenslanders are". This to me would mean everyone in the state is like this. That is what i am meaning. maybe i am taking to the wrong way?

We arent all like that. Im born and bread South Aussie, but saw the light and moved from there. I believe share the water as too much , at times, falls in QLD. But i also dont remember anyone is WA, or the NT agreeing to building a water pipe say from the kimberlys or kakadu to "Share the water". And there is also cotton farms in VIC and NSW.

millions of litres of fresh water run out to see every day from The Ord River, grow crops that require massive floodplain irrigation up there, no need for massively exoensive infrastructure.

That won't help the orchards on the riverland, nor the farmers on the lower Murray. I imagine the potential economic benefits would be huge if we could add enough water to SA, Vic and NSW.

That's in the wa not the nt. The order river scheme is already massive, and you will be pleased to know, Chinese companies will be farming land around the ord and sending the food back to China, using Chinese labour also.

Could swear you mentioned growing cotton and rice in nt. :-)

Any crops of that nature will destroy a river up here. The amount of money made from those crops is nothing compared to the fishing and tourism these rivers create. Every 2nd person up here has a boat. Start ruining the fishing up here, and you might as well give this land away to foreign countries.

Wouldn't matter which party was in government, no Australian person or company wants to work in these areas for what they will get in return. This is why the Chinese can get in. They have the money, the labour and the need.
