Some fair points there FS.

I agree about Gray and Hartlett, most would agree they are extremely important to our side, and if fit.....well can be the difference between us making the 8 or not in the coming years.

When schulz hangs up the boots, alot will hinge on Butcher making progress in leaps and bounds. Mason Shaw is obviously a first year player but with a few years experience could provide a tall target, and whilst we still have 3-4 years in schulz yet......perhaps in the coming drafts a 3rd tall may be looked at, circumstances permitting.

Trengove will be supported this year with the recruitment of Hombsch, Heath, Stevenson, a fit hartlett, Clurey.....all recruited as running options out of defence with good skills by foot. I think if we can get players like this in our best 22 it will leave Carlisle (not so much) and Trengove who havent got great skills, to focus on lock down defensive roles. However- good sides have tall defenders that can use the ball effectively, and is the difference between a top 8 and top 4 side imo.

I like Jasper Pittard as well, but like Hamish and Robbie is fragile. You need these blokes to be playing purely to take a tag and allow the others to have more freedom, Pearce was pretty hardly scrutinised by some port fans – however he copped the close tag that he wouldn’t have got/won’t get next year IMO. With Gray, Hartlett, Ebert, Boak all in the same side week in week out the load/tag gets spread
Like I said a lot of ifs and buts with un proven players – but things can change quickly ie WC and ADEL the last 2 seasons. Port can’t make any mistakes with their recruiting/trades in the next few years

True I forgot about pittard. Will most likely slot into our 22 if fit.

Good luck with that.

Clueless.

Dom has done a wonderful job through tough times, no doubt. You note Boak was "possibly leaving", correct, but he didn't.

Ebert not cutting it in a good side? Hmmmm, I dont think WCE wanted to lose him and were resigned to the fact the go home factor was worth more than they would have paid him.

Much positive change taking place at Alberton, perfect time to appoint a new skipper.

He was dropped during 2011 finals series.

We'll just gloss over that glaring fact pirate ;)
The one thing that stuck tight through crisis after crisis was the on field leaders ie; Dom, Cornes, Schulz. The board was imploding, coaches leaving, supporters not turning up yet a new, first time captain an vc are appointed. Little ol' clueless me would have thought a first time coach would have liked some experienced leadership on the field, especially with a young group. If port lose 4 or 5 on a row which is a distinct possibility, there will be pressure on Boak which he would never have dealt with before. If his form starts to wane due to this well.....
Anyhow it's just a possible scenario, I'm off to look for clues.

Would you not think when there is fresh faces in charge ( coaches, CEO, board ) and a rejuvination of a playing group that has under performed that a new leader would be considered?

You wont get anyone who apprciates what Dom has done for Port Adelaide more than me, but there comes a time when the captaincy needs to go to the next generation and that time is now. Dom struggled for form and fitness himself in 2012 and he isn't getting any younger.

As for Ebert being dropped from the Eagles side in 2011, he played 76 games in 4 seasons mainly in the mid field and upon the return of Kerr to the Eagles line up late 2011 was moved to a half forward flank where his form dropped and he was left out of the side.

I think 76 games in 4 seasons from debuting is "cutting it"....

I think port will really improve and could finish anywhere From 11th and 13th in 2013.

Off field I think they will improve and only make a $3 mill loss.

All looking good at alberton in 2013.

I reckon they'd take that as well seeing as they lost a few players. It's the competitiveness in each match though that is the real measuring stick for Port's progress.

Sorry, forgot to sledge!

IMHO i think this is a positive move by the power. Dom wont hold a grudge. He is 2 much the old school footballer, club before player. This might give him more freedom and he could be real link man in defence or tag out clubs best players. Hell chuck him up forward. Could be such a versatile player.

I agree I think port fans will rejoice and really rally behind Hinkley if they could reach the lofty heights of 10th - 11th in 2013.

It's not all doom and gloom at alberton no matter what opposition fans would like to think.

Seems Cassissi also thinks it is a positive move and the right time to do so.I'm backing him to be a pretty good judge, better than those on here anyway.

I'm sure nobody will believe his comments and run out the "of course he had to say that" line.....

No need, you've already done it.
What do you think would happen if he came out and said "I am filthy on the club for taking the captaincy away from me, after all the hard work i've put in, loyalty is a two way street. This will cause dissent amongst the playing group"??

I found a great quote that explains your mentality, UK fan....

You can always tell when someone is jealous of you, if they only speak when they have something negative to say. :D
If you don’t like my words, don’t listen. If you don’t like my appearance, don’t look. If you don’t like my actions, turn your head; It’s as simple as that.
