Cyril Collard (13 Games 57-58) and Percy Cummings (5 Games 64-65). I'd imagine that Collard was originally a WA lad. Also there is a Colin Graham listed as playing for Melbourne in the 70's. I do recall him having been reminded. Wasn't he related to Michael in some way?

As a Hawthorn supporter the Hawks immediately sprung to mind when reading this. I knew there have been very few Aboriginal players in the past but i wasn't aware of the exact figures. I would be absolutely appalled if there was a set policy in place though.

Regarding the Melbourne players mentioned:

Gary Dhurkkay - after Farmer.
Sean Charles - after Farmer.
Colin Graham - good one. Played at Woodville for a brief time after Melbourne. He would be the only Aboriginal player at Melbourne pre-Farmer.

Actually Ive often wondered about this sort of theory at times as there's been many times both with my SANFL and AFL team that have had no aboriginals at one time or another and the % of aboriginals in various teams has been quite varied, its one of the few things I admire Port for.
Always seemed to be a lot more playing in the WAFL than the SANFL for some reason too.
The more the better IMHO, if every side was full of aboriginals it'd be a much more exciting game to watch than it is now, crikey, I suppose that makes me a racist against white footballers! :?

You would also have a very attacking side with 16 forward pocket players... haha... seriously tho i have noticed that the last few years the aboriginal lads are playing a more consisitent roles in the midfields and holding more key positions than every before... I thoroughly enjoy watching the crop of lads Port have at the moment.

Couldn't agree more. The excitement that the indigenous players bring to the game is amazing. No not racist against white players at all Wedgie just fact.

Dont think there has ever been a policy but maybe from time to time an "unwritten law"

I agree, its obvious that some teams don't draft them. where teams like essendon, the perth teams and port love them.

Aboriginals make up about 1% of the population so they are over represented statistically at both SANFL and AFL levels.

How can he get away with saying that? How does he know its been their policy? I would think other clubs would resent this comment...could he get in trouble for it? or is it just his dumb, pathetic public speaking skills blurting something out before the head computed it?

Can anyone remember an Aboriginal player at Collingwood before 1990? I think Leon Davis was the first Aboriginal Magpie to reach 100 games, possibly even 50 games.
