Of course its cheating. The Crows have agreed to a deal that would see Tippett head home for a 2nd round pick so even if another club offered pick 1 they wouldnt accept it. That is obstructing the draft IMO because the Crows have basically accepted a deal stating they wont trade with anyone else.
Hypothetically, what if Tippet had been shit the last 3 years does that mean whoever wanted him would have to give a 2nd round pick even if he is worth only a 4th round At the time of the deal trhere is no way of knowing what his worth will be. IMO whoever initiated the deal should be hit hardest, wether that be the Crows or Tippet and his management. But at the same time i really think its a storm in a tea cup. How is it any different to Tippet saying i want to be traded to Sydney or Stevens nominating Bulldogs or Dawes and Melbourne, to me that is trade tampering not draft tampering. And isnt that the idea of trades
The difference is that even though they nominated those clubs, any other club could offer as well and have a chance of picking him up if they offer something better. The wrong part of what they agreed to was not even considering better offers.
Look at what happened with Mitchell Clark last year. He nominated Fremantle initially. Melbourne put in a better offer and he went there. If he had a Tippett type deal, the Melbourne offer wouldnt even have been considered, no matter how good it was.
is suppose technically, it didnt happen, was verbally agreed on though. dont know how that would stick as a case from the AFL. not defending them but curious how the AFL is going to go about this. if they miss out on draft picks their lucky their list is not to bad.
I suspect the Crows weighed up their options before doing this. You don't dob yourself if you know you will be in serious trouble. This would have been their last resort all along if they didn't get their way. There will be another angle on this and I suspect it will harm Tippett and his management.
Finally what is draft tampering? That he gets his own way in terms where he gets traded not giving everyone a fair shot @ picking him up? So is it tampering if a player puts a price on his head not giving every club a chance to pick him up?
Can you bring a man to his feet when defeat is on repeat?
so is draft tampering also not winning games to get extra/prority pick in a draft? Melbourne, Carlton and Richmond??? sorry forgot they are all VFL clubs so some rules need not apply.
Is this case any different to Buckley, Brisbane and Collingwood?
Or Akermanis saying to Brisbane if you don't trade me to the Bulldogs i will stay here
Or someone like Jimmy Toumpas saying i will not move interstate so let me drop to 7 and Port will take me. He could say you can draft me, but i will not play footy if you do. If it's only verbal what proof is there of it happening?

tampering point you have has been bugging me a bit..........agree, how can he choose!!!!!!!!!! read everywhere he's going to swans no matter what, is the "living away allowance" ran its time, get rid of it. you dont see adelaide players getting 25% less cause its a more affordable living

Was mentioned today the agreement was done via email and the AFL now has a copy. Not sure if thats fact or just more media beat up

It seems like we are playing pretty aggressive hardball with Tippett and his manager.
Obviously I don't know the bloke personally, but I thought Chapman sounded a bit nervous .. He also refused to speculate on whether there would be ramifications for any individuals at the AFC, which I took to be a question pointed at Steven Trigg.
Agree JK, but he also beat his chest how the board and the AFC have done the right thing here which is crap, you have now admitted the agreement existed after it was made public and you have been caught with your pants down, you had 2 years to declare it but never did hoping it would never be made public.
Trigg is in real trouble IMO, and so he should be esp after the Rendell farce and now this.
Cant just blame the Tippett camp here, AFC are as much to blame, if not more.

Well seeing Tippetts Manager and Trigg have said it happened then there is your proof, once you have that a verbal contract is as legally binding as a written contract.
THE AFL investigation into alleged draft tampering by Adelaide has been broadened to include accusations of salary cap cheating. The league is examining emailed correspondence between former Crows football manager John Reid and Peter Blucher, Kurt Tippett's manager, following the forward's decision to re-sign at the end of 2009. The email is believed to refer to an agreement that Adelaide would trade Tippett to the club of his choice for a second-round draft pick at the conclusion of the three-year contract, as well as an additional payment. Neither the payment nor the trade deal were disclosed in Tippett's contract, which was approved by the AFL at the time, leaving the Crows facing major sanctions for both the agreement to trade him, and the possible salary cap breach.
It is understood the Crows came forward after receiving correspondence from lawyers acting for Tippett late last week, threatening to take the matter to the Supreme Court if the agreement was not adhered to and he was not traded to his club of choice, Sydney.
How embarrassed would the local media be that an eastern states journalist is breaking this story, while the local "journalists" have no idea whats going on.

journos here probably have to clear with their bosses what they are actually allowed to say about the lovely boys, can't go getting too negative now can we.
KURT Tippett may be banned from footy next season and the Crows may not have a pick in the national draft as the saga over the tall forward exploded yesterday.
Adelaide faces the prospect of severe draft restrictions or even an exclusion from the national draft with the AFL investigating the club for a breach of AFL player rules over a side deal to Kurt Tippett's three-year contract signed in 2009.
Tippett and his manager Peter Blucher also face sanctions over an alleged arrangement which is said to have guaranteed Tippett an easy passage to the club of his choice for the measly return of a second-round draft pick.
The worst scenario for Tippett is deregistration, while Blucher's agent's licence might be under threat.
An industry source said the AFL's jaws dropped when the Sydney-Adelaide deal was suggested - Adelaide's highest-paid player Tippett for fringe Swans forward Jesse White and draft pick 23 - and the proposed trade unravelled.
