Yep, Redden is going to be ok. Renouf is baggage we need to carry for another winter yet.

And Wood will be traded to maccas for a burger and fries.

Really, that is just smart to shut down speculation on specific players and keep their names out of it. You don't want them getting disgruntled and leaving on their own after ala Bradshaw.

I tell you what Port do not need and that is a 3rd or 4th ruckman like wood who is a list clogger and thats it, No doubt he had potential but he does not have the attitude or the workrate to become a good AFL player. If i was Port i would be picking my targets and getting them and developing a culture and a future that is promising for a group which has some great young players already (Boak,Harlett,Ebert and co) and with additions like Monfries, Russel and these guys who can have an impact ON the field, then develop the rest through the draft. Its not an overnight fix but there is enough talent to say if you trade well and recruit well then they can be competitive in the near future.

I still think he would be a reasonable "rookie" option.

They've had a young bloke, Curnow, on their rookie list for the last year or so, who's mainly played SANFL Reserves this year and is no certainty to make it at SANFL level.

Getting him on a rookie wage would cost not much at all, and he could step up when injury prone bloke like Redden, Lobbe and Renouf are on the sidelines.

Won't be any actual "trades" until at least next week, but we should hear more about confirmed "free agency" movement some time soon.

Port Adelaide Football Club Statement

Thursday 4 October 2012

The Port Adelaide Football Club confirms Troy Chaplin will depart Alberton after the club decided against matching an offer from Richmond to the restricted free agent.

Port Adelaide general manager football Peter Rohde said the Power had considered detailed medical opinion regarding the 26-year-old defender and was unwilling to counter the extended contract term included in the Tigers’ deal.

“Troy needed serious knee surgery towards the end of 2012 and while we hope he has many years of football left, we’re not prepared to commit to the extent Richmond is,” Rohde said.

“We would have liked Troy to remain at Alberton, but on terms suitable to the Port Adelaide Football Club as well as the player.

“In fact, we had what we considered a fair contract in front of Troy and his management for a long period this year, but unfortunately they were unwilling to sign.

“Troy has been a valuable player at Port Adelaide throughout his time with us and we sincerely thank him for his efforts with our club and wish him the very best at Richmond and back home in Victoria.”

Chaplin was recruited by Port Adelaide from North Ballarat in the 2003 AFL National Draft and debuted in 2004. He played 140 games for the Power, including the 2007 grand final.
