Seems this free agency thing is working pretty well. Definitely good for the players and the restricted/unrestricted classifications make it fairer for the clubs.

Does the player get any say in the decision? For example could he opt to stay at St Kilda for a lower salary than Essendon might offer?
Its the players choice because Goodard has told his manager that he wants to go to Essendon and if Saints match the offer he can still chose to leave by going in the pre season draft
Thanks for that. In general, though, does the player have a say in who he goes to under the free agent system?

Of course he does. He would be negotiating with different clubs etc. Just because he had qualified for free agency a club couldn't claim him. Otherwise Power and other clubs with a heap of room in the salary cap would pick up superstars

I'm a bit naive on this so can I ask a couple of dumb questions? Essendon could pick up Goodard by leaving room in their salary cap after hanballing Gus Monfries to Port and Gumbleton to Crows? Is that about right?

Tippet has informed the Crows that he will not be with them next year.

Carlton are rumoured to have also joined the race for him. It could mean that Gibbs will come home in a trade with Tippett

I can't see him playing in Melbourne unless a club like Carlton offer a couple of hundred thousand a year than anyone else. Which would be unlikely.

If he changes clubs, it would surely be to return home to Queensland.

A million a year, what a joke, if that happened he'd be the most over-paid sportsperson in the history of the solar system.

ST KILDA has chosen not to match Essendon's offer for Brendon Goddard.

Playing out a little like the Mitch Clarke situation for mine. Wanted to leave because homesick but things change when other clubs get interested and more money gets splashed around.

Hope he goes to QLD.

Sydney also been mentioned as a potential home for Tippett.

Really happy to get Knights today, really disappointed to get Chaplin. We need a genuine full-back to take the best forward each week, not a third tall to try to float across a pack.

Just reported on the run home on SEN that Goddard was offered less than 500k for 3 years by St Kilda and Essendon 4 year deal at around 800k .

No brainer really for BJ.
