Camping in South Australia

Looking at going camping somewhere in SA later in the year. What are some good campsites people have used for tent camping? Have previously been to Mambray Creek at Mt Remarkable, and like it there. Don't have any prerequisites for facilities.

Okay. If you want solitude and are self sufficient two opportunities are available. Fitzgerald Bay between Port Augusta and Whyalla is sensational and easy to access. Only a few locals knows about it so you can camp on the beach, fish, swim and not see anyone. If you want to be in a creek bed in a huge valley surrounded by mountains then Spring Creek is the GO. Through Melrose on the Wilmington road and see the sign left. Excellent hiking, camping and no one to bother you. Both places easy to find and accessible with a regular car and trailer.

Burra Creek Gorge at World’s end is pretty awesome for camping
Parachilna, Brachina, and Alligator Gorge in the Flinders are fantastic
Morgan Conservation Park on the lagoon opposite the Town is great in the cooler months.
Kataraptko Creek up on the Murray is great for fishing and canoeing.
Also worth a look are some of the spots in the Grampians they are only 5 hours away
Deep Creek during the week is good and close.
Also Chooklaroo at Kuitpo is even closer and good for walking through the forests.
Just a few to start with.

I've always loved Rawnsley Park in the Flinders, about halfway between Hawker and Wilpena. The camping grounds have full facilities but you can go a bit further up the creek if you want some solitude.

Yes! My wife and I went there reasonably often before our move to Victoria in late 1997.
I've thought of going again but, disappointingly, they no longer do the half-day and full day horse rides through the bush that they used to offer.

Hogwash bend on the murray great beach when the river not in flood
Gleesons landing on yorks nice beach good fishing

Camping is no longer allowed at Hogwash, in any case the sandbar is under water at present

if you like 4wding there is a 4wd park/campground in the riverland. some great camp spots in there.
sugarloaf hill campground is another good one. has dunnies for the sheilas, fire pits etc. few rocks around for the kids to climb on, river for fishing/yabying

Hi BS can you be more specific as to the location?
When I was camping in the riverland previously, I did not have a 4WD, now I do!

I went past there the other day, totally underwater, there were campers there but not many, it has been reported that there have been fairly severe restrictions put on numbers, rather than a complete ban.

When I was camping in the riverland previously, I did not have a 4WD, now I do!

Loveday is the spot. The bloke who runs it is a champ. It's a great set up there.
