Have offered a 4 year $800k deal, was told we originally offered 4x$650k and the Saints wont budge on a 3x$650k deal. Freo was in the mix but apparantly wants to stay in Victoria. Rumours that he met with Hird and some of the board today.
Essendon have stated they will be very active at trade period this year and have plenty of salary cap room, I think we have trageted Goddard, Caddy and Maloney.

Not the Bombers offer. Hird confirmed this in an interview today

Yeah did hear that interview.
He wont end up with us none of our key targets ever do.
Our best hope is that he wants to stay in Victoria but Footscray will probably trump us like they did with Akermanis

Difference is, you don't have to trade for him. that will help the bombers ;)

Interestingly the Saints gave Goddard life membership at their Best and Fairest tonight.
Maybe playing the guilt trip on him to get him to sign.

Hey Jim, Hirdy also said he didnt want to coach at one stage.

You are still in the mix for Goddard I reckon.

Reported in Melbourne that Freo have pulled out the race for Goddard as he is unwilling to move interstate.
Geelong have declared interest in him and Essendon is rumoured to have increased their offer quite a way.
Geelong have also targeted Josh Caddy who is now being chased by up to 6 Victorian clubs after returning home to Melbourne

Goddard pretty much has shut door on Freo.

Lynch looks set to join Carlton on a 2 year deal.

I would be disappointed if he left but honestly i dont think he will get a game as frequently as he would like in the next year or 2 and his performance was definately down this year.

But he and his partner have a young family and a business so would be an interesting move to pack up for a couple of years.

I think the Eagles have a few blokes who might be looking at short contracts or the door.

Stars not many but some good players left in the 90's

Fraser Gehrig was probably one of the best at St Kilda but completely changed his game from a wing/hf to a power forward.

Matt Clape went to carlton and was a good player in that great 95 side, Craig Turley but his best footy was at WCE in 91, Jarrod Schofield played some decent footy at Port and Jason Heatley played well for St Kilda in the 97/98 years, Scott Watters probably played better for Sydney than WCE and Brad Ebert seems to have found his spot for Port Adelaide.

So really not many at all, Judd and Gehrig would be the 2 best IMO. Our record is much better when we get players (Kennedy,Chick,Steinglein, Cummings and co)

Was Stenglein better for the eagles than he was for the Crows? I always thought he was good here but didnt quite go as good over there. What was the trade deal for him anyway?
