I reckon we'll get flogged, training in dry conditions and with the comp up their in the middle of their season with all the players used to the wet ball.

Pretty much what Glenn Elliot said last night, except the flogged bit. He did say if he was a betting man, it would be NT for the reasons you've said. The NT side has been training together for quite a few weeks, and they've got something to prove if they ever want a chance of entering a side in the SANFL.

Umm so thats why Norwood beat them in 2000 by four goals due to their lack of fitness.

You can't get fit by training an extra night a week from the piss poor fitness standards those blokes come from.....

Seriously if you don't win the game, it will be the case of your players not giving 100% and thinking of the strays they are going to cut from the herd at Discovery and Rorkes drift , like the Glenelg in 1985. The boys had two things on their mind that game, don't get injured and lets have a goodweekend away before we get serious about winning the flag this year....

If Jarman and the boys are taking the game seriously you should win and win well.

Umm rest assured the NT SANFL side thing is on the back burner up there, it won't happen for at least 10-20 years my money is it won't happen in my lifetime. They haven't got the coin to fund it. the AFL's priority is to fund the U/18 team for the Australian Champs, not the senior NT team, The government is about funding facilities, participation and bringing AFL, NBL, NNL and teams to play up there in one off gamesthey won't subsidise an NT team in the SANFL comp. The NT business sector is not strong enough to sponsor a team to the level required, and the average profit up there for the licensced clubs is about $200 000.

FWIW airfares and accomodation for 22 games (11 in Darwin and 11 in Adelaide @ $500 a flight and two nights accom at $120 (2 per room)) for 30 people (21 players, 4 coaches, team manager, 2 trainers, 2 property) is $1.1 Million even before you start paying for players coaches, medical costs, equipment.

Unless the SANFL clubs and SANFL want to subsidise the NT team, it aint going to happen....

You'd be amazed about the build up to this game in Darwin Tassie.
The NT are putting all their eggs in the one basket and are hell bent on winning this game.
Demand for tickets and merchandise has been quite extraordinary, ironically the biggest demand is for North gear, I'm tempted to take a heap up and sell it!
Be interesting to see the reception we get up there as apparantley they have are all aware of the money and time North have invested in this game and are aware of the NT lads running around for us.
Its actually the first game of the season up there that the ABC is going to telecast (replay the next morning locally and on ABC the following Sunday).
You've got to remember its a very early trial game for North and for them its bigger than the GF. I think you'll find there's a lot more riding on it from their side than the 2000 game, it'd be more akin to the recent allstar v afl sides game.
I was quite amazed yesterday when I found out that the game wasn't subsidised as much from other organisations as I thought, North had to actually pay a fee to the NT to play the game but North were very keen on paying back the NT for some of the wonderful players they've given us in recent times.
Man I'm excited about this trip!

Here's prices for the game at which they're expecting a sell out:
Reserved Seats:

Full Price $18.50
Concession and 13-17yrs $13.50
Children 5-12yrs $8.50
Children under 5yrs $5.50

General Admission:

Full Price $13.50
Concession and 13-17yrs $8.50
Children 5-12yrs $3.50
Children under 5yrs Free of Charge
Family (2 Adults/2 Child) $32.50

You can also get seats in the Airconditioned part of the GS for over $100!

I'm looking forward to mingling with the locals in the General Admission part between taking photos of the game.

Umm No have in lived there until July last year I know what it'll be like

I know lots of free tickets will given to the community "blokes" and kids

And lots of supporters carry wire cutters with them, for cheap entry......

I'm tipping 7000 to 8000 crowd,

The NTFL and NT News has had a history in the past of reporting 12-13 000 crowd numbers at ovals that are uncomfortable with 6 000, a la the old Gardens oval opposite the Casino, I know because I have been there @ NTFL vs whoever games......

FYI for Jarman watch Saint Mary's games as over half the team will be Saints players the coach is an ex-Saints Coach and they will play the St Mary's way....

From the bits I can interpret out of that post (wtf is with the first and last line?) I don't think the fact you previously lived up there is too relevent as the NTFL have said the build up is unprecedented.

I'll have to try and track down those people with wire cutters to save some $$$.

Every NTFL rep game up there the build up is un-precedented according to Charlie (ABC) and Grey (NT News' Rucci).

The last line is a tip for Jars re how they are going to play.

Sorry if I sound pessimistic, I know how they exaggerate about the footy up there. e.g an improvement in training for a club up there is getting all the players to training not just a select few.....

FWIW you will have a good time, it will be a good game, it will be wet and all things being equal you should win....

If you want some contacts to speak to the NTFL side email me....

Thanks for the offer mate, but the details I was referring to were from the boss of the NTFL, as long as I find the beer tent I'll be happy.

Tell me good pubs and restaurants you recommend, we're staying on the Esplanade.

Tassie, what's the best PUB/TAB up there ?
or if we're going out for a swillfest whats the go, considering most of us are into our 30's & beyond ?
When I was in Darwin 20 years ago the Vic had live bands there.

If you are staying on the Esplande you are within walking distance to most of the restaurants and nightclubs - there will probably be something on Mitchell St (the next one over) to cater for your tastes. If you want more upmarket dining there is Cullen Bay (a 5 min taxi ride) or Stokes Hill Wharf (same distance opp direction).

If you want live bands and you're in your 30s the Vic crowd might be a bit young (unless you're all deviants) but there are quite a few live bands and solo acts on Mitchell St.
We used to be good :-(

Doggies has summed it up and have given my thoughts previously in this thread on p2

Darwin nightlife is pretty much confined to Mitchell St, hard to not find a place there to suit mosts tastes.

If you want the play safe method the Darwin Shennanigans is run by the same mob who run Shennanigan's at Marion

The VIC is similar to Joppies, you always tend to end up there at 4 am.

One of the better kept secrets during the day & early evening is the Cavanagh (the old casino) on Cavanagh St (two over from Mitchell St)

It met three important criteria for us from the Darwin cricket club....

Cold beer check
Pool check
Swedish Backpackers in bikini's CHECK!!!

Umm bit difficult for Tony Frawley (GM NTFL) to make that comment as he has only been there six months..........

Yes he is brother of.........

As I said most unlike the NTFL to not exaggerate and for me to use a double negative...........

And As I said as long as I find the beer tent I'll be happy! ;)

Already been stuffed around as rumour has it Qantas booked everyone on the flight except for the Players!!
They had to turf 22 fans off the early flight and lucky me was one of them.

We're now going out at 12.55 on Friday on an International Flight, we're trying to work out if we can get free piss on that flight as its an International Flight depsite us only travelling locally. If we do then I'll be very happy about the inconvenience!

I'll let ya know how exaggerated it was on Monday night when I get home. (another bloody delay, now go at 1.40 instead of noon which I like but we now have a 40 min stopover in Alice, boo!)
