Spot on.
Done a great job this year.

But...could be in the same position as Ratts if we struggle next season!

If Eade goes to Port I reckon Collingwood would be mad not to chase Ratten as assistant especially with Carlton paying his wages next year. Eddie will be fuming if Mick goes to Carlton so he would love to get one back on the Blues

Brett Ratten held himself with such decorum & dignity. Its a disgrace the way they treat their own.
Rats has been at Carlton for nearly 25yrs, is a premiership player & 3 time B&F, & he was the man to take them forward.
I'd laugh if Malthouse decides not to coach next year, tho I'd reckon he'd be pretty well locked in.

Well Done Rat's.

=D>

You can tell a good coach by the stress that shows on their faces, eg Ratten/Primus.

They both knew that they could try no harder and both loved their clubs.

Who wants to look like that every week.... :D

There are a lot easier jobs out there. :D

Ratten's Ports man - he's a good coach & handled himself with dignity & class.
They should go for him at a hundred miles an hour, before someone else snaffles him.

Port need someone to develop their kids and work with them. Ratten I don't see coming back to coaching for a while. Port will look at Eade or someone else with experience as a head coach not an assistant.

Agree with this completely. For someone who's just been sacked, I think he comes out of this ordeal looking better and stronger than before it.

I'm torn on whether they made the right decision, as Ratten's results stack up and it takes time to build a genuinely competitive side .. That said, I also believe Malthouse is an absolute guru.

Ratten even though results this year hasnt gone well, has handled himself well at press conferences being bombarded at stages throughout the year from the media.Malthouse deal must be done IMO,as their has been friction on the board with Ratten receiving the last contract.Voss is safe but lucky to have kept the job with the Fevola debacle having to let players go to ease salary cap restrictions. Not sure if Mark Neeld will go beyond next year if the Demons dont improve.

Not even being a Carlton fan I'm disappointed that they dismissed Ratten, it's too easy to forget that 3-4 years ago they were an absolutely basket case. Looking at the other sides that were struggling at the same time. Richmond, Melbourne, Essendon(sort of), North Melbourne. Nth and Ess are ok but Carlton is certainly better than Melbourne maybe a tad above Richmond. Sure they had a few good draft picks, but the draft is no certainty. In my opinion Ratten has been shafted, number one instigator?? The Media......
Carlton 0 - Media 1

For what it's worth Malthouse won't be the answer IMHO

I heard Malthouse in an interview the other day defusing speculation that he was in line for the Carlton job and he said he hoped Ratten keeped his job.

If he genuinely meant that he'd refuse the job it was offered to him.

And if Malthouse came out and said he wanted to coach Carlton this whole situation would be out of control and people would be getting sued left, right and centre for many things. Some people have no bloody idea.
Bloke is below the clubs winning average this year with a top 4 side in his arms..... Didn't perform and if they f***** up again next year their boat could have already left the dock. They are better dying trying things than die wondering. Blokes been paid what he's owed and if you think this is an ideal situation for any AFL club then you need a bullet....
Can you bring a man to his feet when defeat is on repeat?

Leon Cameron, and now Scott Burns, have now both ruled themselves out of the Port job. Whether thats as a result of them being told by the PAFC that they are no longer a contender, is unknown.

So the candidates would appear to be Ratten, and a few lesser talked about options such as Leigh Tudor and Ken Hinkley.

Perhaps Adam Simpson too..??

With Collingwood still in the finals, its difficult to get a guage on whether Eade is still interested, and thereby remains a contender..

Personally, I would probably prefer Eade or Tudor, or perhaps Simpson

I wouldnt be that keen on Ratten, essentially because his appointment would probably be seen as replacing one failed coach with another, and the supporter base would be unlikely to embrace that.
