he is very weak and still sick apparently. So if he does not play this week thos will be the answer.

Withdrawl symptoms? ;)

Or just covering their ass when Buddy does'nt play again this week because the Hawthorn lawyers still haven't found a loophole out of this mess?

Whatever happens, you can bet the AFL are doing everything they can to avoid another Ben Cousins debacle.

Having never even tried any illicit drug, I dont know exactly how good they make you feel. But if I got paid a shitload to play footy as my job, I would not do anything that could **** that up. No matter how good it was.

Buddy would have to be a total dropkick if the rumours are true.

Thats the 1st common sense summary i have read on the issue and the most accurate IMO.
You don't run Black Caviar at Kalgoorlie for $5k in prize money do you!!!

You'd be silly to get done when your on your second strike, but considering no one finds out about the first 2, if your that way inclined then why not?

Yeah but it's not till the third positive test that anythings done about it. I bet there's a stack of players with one and two strikes, it's human nature to push the boundaries. You know, wet paint don't touch ;)

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...

FFS, Your first thought was withdrawl symptoms... ?

So next time I have a supposed virus; head ache, spewing, cold sweats, I don't actually have said virus, I am coming off of some serious gear?

That's priceless...

I don't know if Buddy is, was or will ever be on anything, but for your first thought to be that he's suffering withdrawls.

Good grief... :?

I chuckled too. Would have to be using a drug very regularly to suffer those kinds of withdrawals and that kind of drug use wouldn't go unnoticed at an AFL club (let alone have no impact on your performance as an elite athlete).

Ben Cousins?

He had stated that he didn't use much during the season, (not enough for withdrawals anyway) but went hard when they had time off.

YEH, I don't believe that one bit.

It would be difficult to be an elite athlete and maintain regular use of stimulants due to the suppression of sleep and appetite. Depressants, like prescription painkillers, would be a different story.

Jase:
"first thought" given the context - the series of suspicions on record about his past, especially in the period when the rumour in Melbourne was that Hawthorn were rumoured had 5 players turn up positives in one season.

Others:
As for how long, or how often, one needs to use to get withdrawal phenomena - it depends on your body.
Looking at narcotics or stimulants for example I've known people to have some withdrawal after one (OK largish) dose, whereas others can use for some time before it happens.

I got moderate withdrawal symptoms many years ago after 40 hours using Di-Gesic tablets 3 at a time 4-hourly until I could have a dental abscess drained.
(Drained at midday on a Sunday after my Dentist had been up till 3am watching Rugby.)
The withdrawal hit me on the the Tuesday morning - I'd taken the last dose of 2 tablets Sunday night.

Some mild users of drugs, even alcohol, may use for years and never have symptoms because they always get another dose before withdrawal hits.
Nobody then even suspects - even the addict - until they attempt to give it up to prove to some one that they are not addicted.

That's where the concept of "uppers" and "downers" come in - the regulars need both and try to balance them.

No one in the AFL would use sleeping tablets!

C'mon Psyb, you're intelligent, you know that it would be impossible to function as an elite athlete while cycling the two on a regular basis.
