If 50 000 jobs are created, yet 30 000 full time jobs are lost in the process and replaced by Part Time jobs of one hour a week or more, how does that benefit the economy when people lose a full time job but gain a 20 hr a week job to replace it?

because Tony will roll back in workchoices and no public holiday or penalty rates

When did he admit this?

The extravagance in workers rights already has had a serious effect on productivity and therefore employment in this country. 17 1/2 per cent holiday leave loading FFS?

Sky Pilot,

Funny I don't remember hearing Howard say anything about WorkChoices in the lead up to the '04 election and productivity declined under WorkChoices too. Unemployment is just 4.9%, some economists consider that full employment.

He never thought he'd get a majority in the Senate

As I said before, she campaigned on having an outright majority and didn't get it.
As far as I am concerned, she has some leeway on what she promised and what she can deliver.
BUT, she still went for it - beware what you wish for.........
In some ways, the LNP have won by not winning.
I think the next election will give them the government with an outright majority
I'm happy with a majority HOR and minority Senate as the check and balance
What we dont need is a stark, raving loony party coming in at the start :-ss 8-[ :ymhug:

That one always got up my nose.
Paid holiday time I saw as acceptable, but if you are a small business you then had to hire a temp at casual rates - 20% loading.
17.5% holiday loading on top of that was really annoying - You are paying 2.375 people's wages for one job!

That's why I went to employing two casuals who could fill in for each other.
I scrapped employing anyone once there was talk of casuals being awarding privileges like leave and sick leave on top of the 20% loading they already got for not having those.
EPIGENETICS - Lamarck was right!

It was in the early 1970s that the ACTU campaign for an annual leave loading began. The basis for it was that workers who worked shift work, and attracted penalty payments, did not take home less pay during their annual leave when they were not paid penalty rates.

Further, the loading was a way of compensating workers for additional expenses usually incurred during holidays (eg. travelling costs) and as compensation for the unavailability of extra sources of income while on leave (eg. overtime).

Unions in the stevedoring industry negotiated the breakthrough of a 17½% loading in 1970. In spite of earlier resistance the Commission in 1974 included a 17½% annual leave loading into all awards. In doing so they acknowledged that union campaigns had been successful in gaining acceptance of the loading by state tribunals, governments and employer associations.

I think it may have been to compensate someone on holidays not being able to do overtime.

I love how Abbott lays accusations all over the place and repeats them ad nauseum to appear as if they are true, but when he is challenged on his behaviour he goes to water every time.

It's a pity the likes of Keating aren't around anymore otherwise Abbott wouldn't last 5 mins.

When this moron is elected as PM, we will finally see that he has no substance whatsoever.

Can anyone spot the difference?

Yeah I saw a bit of that interview tonight and deceitful doesn't even begin to describe that dropkick.

The guy always makes a fool of himself when he has to talk outside of his three or four word slogans he repeats over and over for the 6pm nightly news.
