Re: State game SANFL v WAFL
And in another amazing result yesterday the NT U/18s beat VIC Metro by 3 goals.
I can't recall a former Div 2 U/18 team beating one of the former Div 1s, not sice they've combined the two divisions.

Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Re: State game SANFL v WAFL
I listened to some of the game on LifeFM and in the breaks all one of the commentators seemed to want to talk about was the AFL. Kept asking Backwell what he thought of different things in the AFL. Turned it off after that. If you're not interested in the SANFL or the state game let someone commentate that is. He is terrible commentator anyway. Sorry I don't know his name. He is the main one.

I complained about that earlier in the year. People tune in to hear the SANFL. Unfortunately, some of the people involved don't understand.

It was a really well umpired match too with generally no soft free kicks given. One exception (I think it was the WA umpire who erred) was when Kyle Hams got an over-the-shoulder free on the wing in the 3rd term from a tackle that was not high at all. Also, Ruory Kirkby was a tad lucky to be paid that mark in the last 1/4 which led to a crucial goal too.
Can't speak for the Hams decision but if it was the mark Kirkby took over the ruckman (Johnson??) I thought he was the only bloke to touch the footy and clunk it on the 2nd grab as it fell into his lap.
I was sitting on the boundary at ground level for LifeFM and can tell you as he came down the ball actually bounced up off his hip where Kirkby claimed it, rightfully so, on the 2nd grab.
Was the correct call and a very good mark, which Roary is.

Yeah but your complaint was for the callers talking about a Crows player in Brad Crouch, who was playing in the SANFL game they were calling for Westies, where he happened to have 9 opening quarter disposals, so they were talking up his AFL prospects accordingly.

There is a schedule for the next 5-6 years already set.
Now whether the poor crowd in Adelaide or the VFL massacre of Tasmania today changes that remains to be seen. I doubt it.
Would you be able to enlighten us Phil? I googled state game schedules but couldn't really find one. I'm presuming that the VFL will play the WAFL next year, so does that mean we're playing Tassie?

I don't LifeFM get the numbers but I know last year RPH had a report that showed the online streaming numbers, but that was mainly from the overseas listener perspective and showed from what countries they were tuning in from.
So to answer your question - I don't know for sure

They're not included in the official radio surveys that come out about every 6 weeks because they're community stations.

but surely the stations would like to know how many people are tuning into, even if its not for official ratings?

Re: State game SANFL v WAFL
1) Radio Ratings
- compared with TV recording these are still very amateur based. its based on 3 hour blocks and last time I heard was still a diary system. I asked once the same question re FIVEaa SANFL show but there is no specific figure because its part of the the Sunday night audience.
- Commercial Radio Australia organised the ratings and includes the ABC but not community stations.
- Occassionally community stations run their own survey but it is much broader re general listening, not day or time specific.
- yes I am sure stations would like more accuate figures but I dont think they exist.
2) Feedback on coverage
- I have always said this that stations appreciate feedback on the coverage so If you would really like to see an improvement or something you like retained then send them an e-mail. It does get passed on, I know because I got some interesting ones after the GF last year.

http://www.life.on.net
3) Future Interstate Games
- It's a six year program co-ordinated by the AFL
- Two divisions ( SA / WA / Vic) and (TAS, NEAFL Nth, NEAFL East)
- Over the six years we play WA & VIC home and away, and two of the other three once.
- I saw the program and I simply can't remember who our opponent next year is.
- It's either VFL at home and NEAFL North in Queensland.
- I think the AFL reasoning (and it has always made sense to me) is that State Footy is the closest level to AFL footy.
There have now been many mature players who shone in state game level and are now in the AFL, Nahas and Jetta two recent examples.
So from a AFL recruiting perspective it's a good environment to get the close to the best 120 players who are not in the AFL system and see how they go up against each other.

In retrospect I'd have to agree. Since I was barracking for WA there was probably a bit of bias creeping in at a pivotal stage of the game

That and constant references to the AFL. Anyway, thanks for backing me up. At least I know I'm not alone in what I've been thinking.

A diary system is still used. The diary is setup in 15 minute intervals. Whilst the summary that comes out from Nielsen only shows the dayparts in 3 hour sessions, a program can be used to break this down further. The problem would be that the SANFL show is on at different times each week.

Seeing as though most of the people involved in the coverage read these forums, there isn't much point in emailing the stations when those same people don't / won't / refuse to understand the concerns raised.

That is amazing. Even though the game was in Darwin (perfect for footy last night), still a great result. More Rioli's on the way.
