Hawthorn Season 2012

Postby MatteeG » Fri Mar 30, 2012 10:29 pm

Well someone has to start it!

Was nice to get in the real stuff tonight and get a win against a quality opponent.

Thought Broc did real well in the ruck considering his lack of experience. Backs looked suspect again with the big Pie forwards, but thought Boumann did OK.

Midfield was solid again and forward line looked dangerous.

I'd slide Hodge in on a back flank when he is right, maybe get the Rough to CHB and throw Shoenmakers forward.

The Hawks were very good tonight such a well balanced team and with class all over the ground.

My early flag favourite...

Their best 22 will see them through to flag, but do they have enough depth?

Would prefer to throw him out.

IMO is not in our best 22 (to come back in - Hodge, Roughead, Gilham, Shiels, Bailey)

Gunston is a better extra tall option up forward the Shoenmakers/

Was also impressed by Boumann and McCauley, also Smith could become a really quality player, is tough and has the ability to win the ball

Roughead would have to go forward. McCauley has been alright, him and Hale could hold there own in the ruck. Hodge back to the midfield. Gilham down back. Still keep Shoemakers down there as he has improved and you need the big defenders to take the monstars.

I think depth will test out the Hawks especially in there defence, but I think they have enough to still get a top 4 spot and be really dangerous.

Hodge still unlikely to face Crows, but don't think this will be to much of an issue for the Hawks, should bounce back pretty well this week.... Interesting watching the game against Geelong and Roughead was thrown around a fair bit, would be nice to see him get thrown up full forward again and kicking a few bags, him and Franklin when on song are a treat to watch.

Clarko needs his head read. Shoemakers to the forward line and Roughead on to the Gorilla forward. The Hawk fans will be screaming for it this week.

My thoughts exactly REB......then pi$$ of shoenmakers when Gilham is right to play.

 This is funny.

I agree with REB, with McCauley (sp?) now rucking, we dont need Roughy in the ruck for a fair chunk of the game. Roughy needs to go back, take the big forward, Shoenmakers, if picked, can have the 3rd best forward and if there's no matchup, can go play in the magoos.

Against Walker and Tippett, I'll turn the tv off if Shoenmakers stands one of those 2. If you were Sando, you'd say kick it to him all day! With a massive game the week after vs the Eagles, this becomes crucial. Everything else equal, we should win this. But the Crows have shown they are a much different side this year.

I went to the game on Sunday- a good win (anything over the 'loops is a good win).

Still dont think we are near our best yet- seemed to run over the ball a lot, and still look fragile in defence under the high ball.

Thought Whitecross again was good, Gibson superb and Lewis pretty good too. Great to see Rough improve and get through another game.

Tough one in Perth this week with another 6 day break, if we can snag a win we are looking in good shape. Hopefully see Hodgey back soon!

My tipping reeks but I don't think you can win in Perth. They've got too many Gorilla forwards and your midfield won't keep up on the open spaces. Add to that you can expect to be bent over and shafted by the umpires as well. If was a Hawker I'd be saying bring back Podgy next week.

Speaking of ruck, max bailey has been placed on the Long Term Injury List meaning he's out for at least another 8 weeks.
Big chance for Broc McCauley to cement his spot in the side.

Not just in the ruck. If Pods and Hawkins can create havoc what will Darling, Cox, NickNat, Lynch and Kennedy do? Your midfielders have the edge in pace and at Subi that's a pretty big edge. You should win this one at home and take an eight point advantage over a fellow top four contender. The opportunity is just too good to miss. Top four doesn't cut it for the Coast, top two is on the agenda. You'll be primed.
