GWS Season 2012

Talk on the national game

Re: GWS Season 2012

Pretty excited to watch a new club play the first ever premiership season game.

While i think they will get beat comfortably i think they will be competitive as someone else has said they are looking to play a more contested style of game.

With Sydney playing a contested style i think they will just do enough to win without exerting to much.

Im a tad surpried GWS arent going to play a real attacking style of football. With Sydney being know as a boring side this could have been their way to attract a niche in the Sydney AFL market. Be the alternative to the Swans.

Was always going to be. No way would the afl rub out their big GWS recruit on the eve of the first Sydney showdown

Just seen what he was reported for. Do you seriously think he should of been rubbed out for that?

Seemed like an old school rev up to me. I'd hate to hear Scotty reeling out that tired old shit at Geelong.

I'm not surprised at all. The Giants don't have anything up front so if they go around giving up 30 goals like the Gold Cost do then they are going to spanked by even more than how much they did. Sheedy/Williams is teaching a young group to be accountable and hard at the ball and that all starts from a defensive mindset. You could see it coming from their first outing in the NAB this year.

Just by running out there they are an alternative to the Swans.

Of those who had played AFL before:
Chad Cornes, 24 possessions, 8 marks, six tackles
Phil Davis, 17 touches, five marks
James McDonald 23 touches, six marks, six tackles and a goal
Rhys Palmer 25 touches, four marks, seven tackles
Callan Ward 22 touches, 3 marks, seven tackles

Phil Davis was the only one not to lay a tackle (edited), and none of the young lads got above five.
Davis aside, the effort and leadership was there from the senior players.

Some good signs last night, but also have Scully, Brogan, Power and Patton to come back, expect them to be more competitive than Gold Coast last year.

Brogan would only hurt them.

Didn't watch the game? Davis' game on Sam Reid was great. He played a great negating role. Leadership was there to be seen for those that actually watched the game with understanding

I thought Davis was okay, although his disposal was hit and miss.

Was hit and miss, i agree, but his game on Reid was pretty good considering how much ball Sydney had and how often they try and go through Reid

If thats the best he has got after 40 years in the game he hasn't really been paying too much attention now, has he? I thought it was very, very average and almost the speech of someone who had no idea in the lead up to the talk as to what he was going to say. If that was him trying to roll it out off the cuff he should make some notes first.

"Your parents are here to watch you...." LMFAO, old looney. :D

I'd say what we saw on tv was only a small % of what was actually said, they weren't going to show anything that mentioned game plans or match ups or anything like that

Makes no sense to run through match-ups, zones, positioning etc. in the five minutes before running onto the ground. All that stuff is done during the week and well before the game.

Agreed, that is all through summer stuff the zones and structures. Sure the match ups might be refreshed on game day but the last 5 minutes is surely just a rev up?
