C'mon OS, you're smarter than that. He wasn't asked his idea, it was 'workshopped' before he went on air. "Aker, what subject do you reckon we can piss people off with today? Oh, do you have any opinions on Jim Stynes' passing?"

The problem is, he uses his outspoken thoughts for currency, to keep him in a career, not to make any difference in this world. Anything he ever says will be coloured by that.
While he may have had some good points in what he was trying to say, what did he think it would achieve?
Interestingly, while he's criticising a state funeral for a footballer, he forgets that he only gets the opportunity to drive opinion because he was a footballer himself.
If it wasn't for him being a highly decorated footballer, he'd be just another big mouth down the pub like the rest of us.

Good post. Aker is afforded the ears of many because he could run and kick a footy, not for the amount of outstanding charity work he does, the countless people he has helped etc etc but he does, just sometimes make sense albeit typically poorly timed and worded.

Would love to hear his spin on the Rendell issue. :D

Yup, because they misinterpreted the mood and in this day and age, someone's gotta be sacked.

These 4 people you speak of....did they meet on or off the field?
Really some people need to learn the word RESPECT!!!!
Ever heard of a moral compass? Some peoples must point permanently south.

All, or most of us who step on the field have a bit of mongrel in us so dont judge him on that.

Should probably wait till he replies whether it was on or off the field before flying off the handle.

Like i said ZC i can forgive most who have a bit of white line fever. So if it was on field leave it on field.
I wouldnt care if he belted crap out of me or abused me on or off the field. Disrespecting a person who has just passed away from an aweful disease like he's bravely fought for so long, while still inspiring troubled youth, and pulling his old club out of the mire, is utterly reprehensible.

Yes I understand what you are saying but you neglected to wait to see if they formed their opinion on or off the field. I know plenty of blokes I hate on the field that I am good mates with off it.

If they have an opinion of someone based on their personal experiences with that person who are you to say their opinion is wrong? I'm sure plenty of people who are media darlings could be absolute Karmichael Hunt's in a private setting.

Love and respect Jim Stynes. No question there.

Honest question: Did Teddy Whitten get a state funeral? Because he's light years ahead of Stynes.

Yes

Both Whitten and Stynes are very relevant in an important and historical football sense.

Stynes has been involved in charity work, and kudos go to him for that, but in this day and age, which footballer does not (barring pants down Bernie)?

Off field mate at a pre game function before Melbourne played the Crows about 6-7 years ago. These people WERE Melbourne fans.

His fight against cancer was brave, he fought tough, he helped the Melbourne FC so much in his time.

At least im basing some of my opinion on what people who actually met the bloke have told me and not just what they saw on the t.v screen.

A good friend of mine is demented. Crazy, really. He's a Melbourne supporter, living in the Riverland. He attends every Melbourne game in Adelaide and attends several a year in Melbourne. He also attends pre-match functions and has organised events in Adelaide for the Dees.
Jim Stynes once sat next to him for half a game, chatting to he and his son. Regularly when my mate attended games in Adelaide or Melbourne, Jim would spot him and go have a chat with him. This went on for about six years.
Everyone can tell good and bad experiences of meeting people and while he may have been a Demon in the literal sense on the field, I'm pretty certain the good stories outweight the bad, particularly off field.
You're my only friend, and you don't even like me.
