Matt Rendell quits

Postby RustyCage » Wed Mar 21, 2012 2:26 pm

Interesting on SEN radio yesterday Daniel Harford suggested that the reason it took months between the comments being made and being made public is the AFL was in talks with the fed govt about getting funding for some aboriginal programs, and any racial controversy that came up in that time would have put that at risk. If so it makes a mockery of how serious the AFL says the issue is

A bit lengthy, but well worth the read. Summarises the situation beautifully IMO.

Thanks for that link Ginger, I'll have to bookmark that site, looks good.
@pafc1870. I've read the same thought and would be almost certain that that is indeed the case. I agree with your sentiments also.
I read an article by Rucci today that involves Trigg, I'm not sure if it's a quote but alludes that Adelaide may have handled it differently if they had more time- "Had the issue not become public on Thursday, the Crows would have sought mediation between Mifsud and Rendell and counselling for Rendell."
So, effectively the AFL has notified the AFC very late, at a time they're preparing for a NAB CUP GF, suggested very strongly what should happen to Rendell and then just to make sure of the outcome they've released it to the media just as the AFC are deciding how to deal with the issue.
How professional is that! Bastardry 1-01 by A. Demitriou.

Jason Misfud wrote an article in The Age (March 2) defending indigenous players against allegedly 'racist' comments made by Roos & Hird a few weeks back.

"It has also been suggested recently by James Hird and Paul Roos that indigenous players will be phased out of the game because they lack endurance.

This is a disturbing view of the situation from two highly respected and regarded leaders of the competition. Their comments are destabilising and hurtful to indigenous players past and present, as well as those aspiring to compete in the demanding AFL environment"

I guess Indigenous recruitment has been under the spotlight recently and Demetriou is concerned it might damage the brand. Thank God there is a recruiter from Adelaide to be used as a scapegoat!!

Matt Rendell quits

Postby Dols » Wed Mar 21, 2012 6:25 pm

Anyone else think that it is Liam Jurrahs melt down that caused all this to be brought out in the open. Apparently Nisbut has a performance based contract that relates to the amount of indigenous players that end up in the system. Would have been alot of pressure on him when Liam went feral. Looks like he went looking for a sacrificial lamb in Rendell to take the pressure off himself. IMO.

Does Trigg see himself as a replacement to Andy D when he steps down?

They will make changes after much community liaison, Demitriou has magnamously forgiven Rendell, found a token job for him and Mifsud has come up with an ingenious, well researched system to help young indigenous draftees fulfill their potential as AFL players. It will a unique far reaching program on the forefront of sports management, a world first, it will be a system which when journalists in the future do some research it will resemble strangely everything that Rendell described during the now forgotten meeting and his explanation on Footy Classified which strangely all recordings of it have been lost.

But he was effectively sacked. He wasn't given any chance to explain and was given no option. The overlord Mad Greek is stuffing it all up good and proper. Perhaps he should just concentrate on his other x number of directorship that he apparently has his fingers in>

Not sure who watched it but he basically just talked about how they (AFL) are doing everything they can to make sure indigenous kids are looked after blah blah......rest assured that there are no problems blah blah.
He's happy to sit down and discuss what happened with Matt (he had 5 weeks) blah blah.
My opinion was that he knifed Rendell deliberately.
Never turn your back on a Maltese with a knife and his own agenda.
