Wayne Carey - In the news again

Postby Booney » Thu Feb 02, 2012 11:18 am

WAYNE Carey has denied taking drugs following reports that traces of cocaine were detected on the former AFL star as he tried to visit inmates at Victoria's Barwon Prison.

The Herald Sun says cocaine traces were detected on Carey as he went through a routine scanning test for drugs at the maximum security prison yesterday.

Carey was told he could go into the jail to talk to the inmates if he submitted to a strip search, which he declined.

Carey told radio station Triple M that he had been told that the drug testing machine may have been faulty and that he had co-operated with authorities.

"The lady herself that actually went through said that she had tested positive twice on the machine," he said.

Carey said he was "shattered" by the story.

"It's a shame, the day that I'm meant to be taking my daughter to school for the first time and this happens," he told Channel Seven.

Carey said that he been visiting the prison for a year to talk to inmates.

"It's been therapeutic for me," he said.

"I do it for personal reasons as well as to help other people."

Corrections sources said the scanners did not necessarily indicate someone was carrying drugs.

But they did show the person had come in contact with a drug, either inadvertently or intentionally.

Carey has admitted that he did have a cocaine and alcohol problem after his football career ended.

The AFL Hall of Fame member was set to speak with inmates at Barwon Prison yesterday when he was confronted by a scanning test.

Carey was with former Geelong star Ronnie Burns when he took the examination - a routine procedure for visitors.

The results alerted prison staff that Carey was positive to traces of cocaine.

The testing unit blows puffs of air around the subject, releasing any minute residue of narcotics attached to skin, clothing or hair.

Particles are analysed in seconds and compared with samples from dozens of drug substances.

A prison operations manager spoke to Carey, who has struggled with drug abuse in the past.

Carey was told he could proceed into the prison, which houses some of Australia's worst criminals, if he submitted to a strip search.

The 40-year-old dual premiership great declined and left the jail, which is near Geelong.

The Herald Sun understands he and Burns, who co-ordinates a mentoring program, walked away amicably.

It is believed Carey was at the jail after Burns asked him to speak to a group of indigenous prisoners who take part in the program.

"An ion scanner at Barwon Prison returned an alert for drug residue on a visitor as part of regular screening procedures,"a Corrections Victoria spokesman said.

"The visitor left and no further action was taken."

Carey declined to comment last night as he jogged with friends along Beaconsfield Parade in Port Melbourne.
If you want to go quickly, go alone.

If you want to go far, go together.

The machine is reported to go off 200 times a month, if you brush past someone in the street who has been in contact with cocaine you would set it off. Mountain out of a mole hill, I agree he has done some stupid things in his life but trafficking drugs into prison would not be one of them.

Berate him for the things he deserves to cop flak for not media beat ups.

I don't know about you but if I was doing volunteer work and was told I had to go through a strip search for the hassle of donating my time, knowing full well I didn't have any drugs on me, I would walk away too.

But hey if stripping down in a prison is how you get your kicks who am I to judge... ;)

so if you set it off and you knew you hadn't been taking it, would you get your gear off and let some bloke look at your arsehole while you spread your arse cheeks and check under your ball bags??? I know I wouldn't. I'd walk out exactly like he did.
So you've seen everything have you?
Yep

My mate got searched at Soundwave a couple of years ago and it happened to be the 1 festival in the last decade he didn't take anything. Sniffer dog sat right down next to him, watched him get searched by the Po Po with the widest grin I've ever seen him have.

Plenty of evidence to suggest they aren't effective.

"So far this year New South Wales police officers have carried out 14,102 searches on people as a result of a sniffer dog indicating the presence of an illegal drug.

Of those searches, illicit substances were not found on 11,248 occasions - that means four out of five times the dogs are getting it wrong"

These are lies. Corrections Victoria confirmed yesterday Carey was refused entry and WAS NOT offered a strip search.

And Carey confirmed what Corrections Victoria said: "I was never offered to wee in a cup and was NEVER offered to do a strip search"

Mind you we wouldnt want the facts to ruin a good story.

Carey and drugs = news story no matter what the facts are. Since Rupert owns most of Tomorrow's Fish and chip papers we will be given garbage and expected to read it and believe it.

Got pulled over and searched by the NSW police on a business trip several years ago, somewhere near Wyong.

Their initial test indicated we had illicit substances to had get out and watch them spend an hour going through the entire car and the contents of our luggage, almost willing the dog to find something .. In the mean time about 6 different coppers spent the hour basically telling me to fess up.

They were never going to find anything because there wasnt anything, but Im pretty sure they still didn't believe me once their search was concluded and we were sent on our way.
