Spoken like a true bigot - I mean Port supporter. Have you ever thought that without an opposition there would be no Port Adelaide and no sport at all?

I was stating that I dont have a favourite player who currently wears another jumper,I do respect some opponents and would,if the chance arose, like to have them in my team, but, until then,I dont see why I have to have a "favourite".

In logical terms, who you said is

IF they don't play for Port

you don't like them

ELSE

you pity them

ENDIF

So you pity Port players?

Booney the thread is favourite and /or most respected players fromm opposition teams, so come on spill the beans, what current or past players have you seen that you have thought to yourself, "I wouldn't mind seeing them in our guernsey"
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Booney, I like this thread because it has a true sporting flavour. Respect for the opposition. I can remember a time when players didn't shake hands at the end of a game. I think we have moved on from there and I expect a champion to give his all on the field until the final siren and then leave his agression on the ground. Implicit in this is respect for the opposition and acknowledgment of their stars. Thats why I had a go at you.

You don't manage the Pt Adelaide salary cap do you? You seem good at finding loopholes.

Seamus Maloney from Sturt was so important to them for years, always seemed to play well. Ciccollela has been good for the Eagles and have enjoyed watching him play, Porplyzia from West has always impressed me. He deserved a go at AFL.

I always liked the way Scott Sutherland went about his football at North often in an undermanned team. I know not a big name but always contributed from the games I watched, often in a loosing team.

Watching a lot of Central Districts growing up in the 80's, they had some players that were exciting to watch like Wilbur Wilson, the Rat and Rudi.

Its hard to go past Craig Tasborski (Glenelg).

A couple of people have mentioned one of the Jarmans but I think seeing them both play together was an interesting experience. They seemed to have an understanding of where the other one would be - like the Gowans today.

Motley was another player who had amazing talents. I remember him dominating a game against us at Footy Park before he went to Carlton. One of the most dominant performances from a player I have seen.

Seamus Maloney was very important to us, but I dont think we realised how important he was until he left
he would be very handy this year

Well put BB, you'd be hard pressed to find a braver bloke on the field.
I was of the opinion that most blues supporters were quite happy with the Atkinson/Sutherland swap, until he did a knee at Unley & the Blues patrons were fist pumping & high fiving each other.

Apart from a spectacular leap in the '98 Prelim against West...

I can't think of anything of note he did in a Port guernsey.

Paul Bagshaw -Simply Brilliant and commanded respect
Rick Davies - An often insurmountable obstacle
Russell Ebert - The professional who kept going all day long
Tim Evans - Hated the bar5tard but just kept on getting goals
Paul Weston - Awesome Tiger who made his team mates walk tall
Peter Carey - Used his large frame to perfection in the contest
Graham Cornes - A spectacular player capable of amazing things
Wilbur Wilson - Goal freak
Trevor Roe - No one had a better record of nulifying Aish
Brian Cunningham - In and under more often than not
Micheal Graham - The Flash, like Wilbur could kick em from anywhere
John Platten - The ultimate rover who proved his worth in one of the best outfits of all time in Melbourne
Scott Hodges - Was often the difference when it mattered
Greg Phillips - Defensive colossus
Martin Leslie - For decking Dermott Brereton in that state game
Bruce Lindner - Absolute freak. Could do anything.
Darren Jarman - See above. Admire him despite him winning two flags off his own boot for the Cows :D

Phew. The SANFL used to come up with some absolute champions, these days they get snaffled straight into the AWFUL and all you get is Arnott and Hargreaves as change.

regards,

REB
